A simple job today running a new network drop in a storefront. What I encounter -in the wild- is an IDC patch panel done right! Some tips on keeping the belly full and basic cable running stuff this time. And some of this while a kid shouts bloody murder in the background!!
** AT THE END I'VE GOT SOME NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS **
For those of you interested in the type of RJ-45 connector I'm using here, It's a n ICC IC107E5CBL Cat 5e EZ Modular Connector. They can be found on Amazon in bags of 25 for around $50.

As an 24 year IT slug (last 15 of the 24 was as a Network Engineer) I am blown away by your attention to detail, order, cleanliness & cable management! OMG, I've had to fix some really screwed up crap in my time & these were other NEs at the company I work for! Like the time I found out 1 moron had 2 class rooms with 20 PCs each in them, connecting back to the Network Room on a single Cat 5 (Not even 5e) & here's the best part, he had it plugged into a 8 port 10Mbps hub & had that plugged into the patch panel...🙄🤯 This kind of crap was the norm for me, I was constantly going behind them & doing it the correct way. So you & your work ethic are a breath of fresh air my friend!

Always loved to see those before/after pictures on the internet. But actually seeing the transformations being done is just gold. What makes your channel stand out is that the passion you have for your job really shows. The attention to detail, and explaining why things are important (to you). I wish you all the best with your channel, it sounds like you'll have some great content for us in the future. (greetings from the Netherlands)

As someone who's done this on and off for the past 30 years, but far less now, so my skills are a bit rusty, I really enjoy watching you patiently transform phone and server closet furballs into beautifully cabled and organized systems. It's a good reminder to myself to not do crappy work - my own home network is shamefully thrown together but I'm working myself up to spending the couple days to pull it all out and put it back the way it is supposed to be. When I was in high school in the early 1980s I started by doing phone work, some computer consulting. That meant tasks like helping people connect their Hayes Smartmodems to their PCs, Apple ][, ][+, //e.//c, //gs, Commodore VIC20, C64, C128 systems and other odd item (Atari 400/800, TRS-80 Model I/III s so they could dial into MCI Mail, Compuserve, GTE Telenet, other pre-AOL systems, and later AOL, too. In those days we were also installing 1A2 key systems and Panasonic PBXes for myself, friends and small business customers as a side business for years and years. By the late 1980s the work had turned into installing both key/PBX phone systems and 10 megabits thin-net ethernet on RG58 coax, AppleTalk, PhoneNet, Twinax for Token Ring, it was a nightmare. Thankfully the industry did what we all knew it would do, and in the 1990s there was a mass migration toward UNIX systems running on standard intel architectures and ethernet/ISO networking and network stack standards. Networks started seeing some 100 megabit ethernet, while customers got their internet on 1.5 megabit T-1 over copper lines if they were lucky, or DS-3/T-3 45 megabit circuits over fiber if they were larger and could afford it. Business circuits like DS-1/T-1/E-1 and DS-3/T-3 have a higher priority for repair than a lesser consumer circuit) installing and configuring routers, remote access equipment, and early integration of telephones and networking (remember "unified telephony" was going to revolutionize communications. Didn't happen, but VOIP and SIP did, thankfully! Now my home network is 10 gigabit, I have multi-gigabit microwave and fiber serving me at home and the workplaces, and all the toys just keep getting cooler. But it's all for not if your stuff isn't installed well in a a serviceable manner. How do you feel about driving to San Francisco and doing my home and office? :)

I happened across your channel just as I was getting my first rack to fit my enterprise-grade networking equipment, finally tired of prosumer stuff that failed too often. While we did some cable runs back when I was working with computers, it was with very little knowledge and we were mostly just happy when it worked. It's nice to see how it's supposed to be done, and I like that you're explaining exactly why you're doing the things you do.

Absolutely love the videos! I must say that I am learning a lot by watching a seasoned expert. I like it when you call out the previous technician's work and turn it into a "teachable moment". As for a suggestion, how about dividing the larger project out into multiple episodes? The first episode could be an overview of the work order with each of the subsequent episode tackling "phases" with a goal in mind for each episode? Just my 2 cents. Take care now and good luck!

Oh yeah! I'm sooo doing that next time. Trust me, I had to be talked into even publishing that 2-hour video --and that's the one that made this channel popular!! I will still publish long-format videos of similar projects in the future but I'm thinking of cutting out all the "tangent" parts that can easily just be added to a tips video or something like a how-to on an entire subject. I'll also publish things in an episode-format based on phases of a project. Thanks for the input though!! Glad you like the videos!
