*IMPORTANT POST SCRIPT NOTE:* KZbin age restricted this video, which we find appalling - they also turned off monetisation (but that happens all the time). One of our most important tasks is to reach younger people with deep knowledge about history. While we are aware that some people might find war stories and images of the dead offensive, we cannot bow to that sentiment as it is of utmost important that any story of WW2 also displays the horrors of war. While we are fascinated by military history it is _never_ or goal to glorify armed conflicts, to the contrary. Please help us get this resolved by voicing your opinion in a reply to this comment - we will forward your comments to KZbin. This is the last World War Two video of 2018! We are looking forward to 2019/1940, which will be filled with many improvements, lots and lots of new content, the start of multiple new series within this channel and maybe even our first roadtrips to the real-life battlegrounds of World War Two. We're very gratefull to have you all onboard and even more so to have over 2000 of you supporting us on Patreon and timeghost.tv. What we do would not be possible without you! Have a happy and safe New Years Eve and we'll see you in 2019! Cheers, Joram on behalf of Indy, Spartacus, Astrid, myself and everyone else at TimeGhost! Note: Indy refers to a 'Christmas cribs episode' on the TimeGhost channel at the end of this video, but at the time of shooting this we didn't realize that we were going to do a livestream instead. You can check that out on the TimeGhost channel.

Soviets: boy looks like we're the only ones failing on the offensive in Finland Finns: hold my beer
@WandererRTF6 жыл бұрын
It was badly planned, too hastily prepared, horribly executed and far too ambitious attempt. Ironically part of the reason for the attempt was that some of the Finnish leaders feared that the men might become bored if there was nothing going on now that the initial Soviet push had been halted. Some examples of the issues - planning of the attack started on 20th and was approved on 22nd, Soviet air supremacy over the front lines meant that troops could only move at night (so some troops marched 2 nights and attacked without resting), artillery planned for the support didn't even reach the firing positions in time, far too few functional radios, Finnish military had not trained at any level for large scale offensives during the peacetime (so all estimates - like timetables, consumables, communications, taking of the wounded, etc. - were badly off the mark), and also the weather took a turn for the worse as well (for the Finns that is). In the end the attack took place across relatively clear terrain but also one without any major roads. This meant that while there was very little cover from the forests or from other obstacles there also was very little chance of getting AT-guns through the snow. And the Soviets had formed sort of wagon camps of their tanks to protect their infantry in open terrain against which Finns couldn't really do much. Clear terrain made it impossible to approach the camps to use molotov cocktails or satchel charges and there were no way of getting artillery to bombard the camps. Lack of communications meant that instead of coordinated attack the Finnish attack took place as sort of group of engagements by individual battalions.

An interesting character in World War Two from Finland is Lauri Törni/Larry Thorne. He was in the Winter War, Finnish front for Barbarossa, and when Finland sighed a peace treaty in 1944, he joined the Waffen SS (he did not commit war crimes) and after the war he was tried for treason for joining the German Army. He immigrated to the US and joined the Army in 1954, and died in 1965 as a Major in the US Army in South Vietnam in a helicopter crash. He is the subject of “the soldier in 3 armies” by Sabaton.

Especially now that there are trends to glorify the past (especially in Germany). It is more important than ever to know about the past including all the cruelties. This means educating the youth about it and not restricting it. This is history education and that is sometimes cruel and horrifying. Going into a 3rd year of watching and enjoying the content that is shared. When did history become age restricted? What community could ever with a sound mine even consider history age restricted? So we can pump our children full of video games that has them shooting, knifing, or blowing each other up, horror/gore movies...etc. But trying to educate people on the things WE as people have done to each other in the past due to small-mindedness, hate and race only sets us on a course to repeat these mistakes again. I have yet to see much of anything posted on this channel that you wouldn't find in a history book. But alas we have started white washing those too. If we as a people/community can't stomach the images of a dead person from 70 years ago, why are there still people being killed in conflicts/terror attacks all around the world today as we send our youth to go fight in these places? Now that is offensive if you ask me. Indy, you all have done a wonderful job with this channel, and this is actually my first time posting on it. Completely agree with it being unreasonable to restrict the video. This isn't glorification, its education, and it is done in a very professional manner. The reality of conflict is an important message to share. It is worth remembering the sacrifices made by ordinary people, and it is vital that it is remembered that the combatants of WW2 were, indeed, ordinary people. The war shouldn't be reduced to a collection of dates and facts. It dehumanises history, and that would be a very big mistake.

I was specifically remarking on the age restriction unilaterally imposed by KZbin. Content, by contrast is entirely appropriate, consistent and objective. Indy is a historical godboy to me. Peace to all and happy new Year!

Videos like this should be used in history lessons at school so the next generations do not repeat the mistakes of the past, so this age restriction is completely wrong. Also about the ideology issues between the Soviet Union and Germany, Realpolitik beats ideology most of the time in history, especially in wars.

I get the feeling I'm not supposed to see this preview since it's due to release tomorrow and indeed it says under the title ''hidden'' (or whatever the equivalent is in the English version of YT) and I'm not a part of the Timeghost army. I got here simply by clicking the playlist of liked videos. Just thought to give a heads up :) Oh and thanks for the amazing series, I'll save the video for tomorrow!

I am reminded of the delicate snow flakes that complain on the 9/11 anniversaries of seeing video images of the attack and its aftermath. “Young people might be triggered, this isn’t safe content.” Its the same mindset that age restricts Time Ghost, God forbid a generation learn from the past and not repeat histories mistakes. Thank you Time Ghost team for all you do, keep perusing excellence.

@@SuperLusername Assad's regime no, but the Kurds in Syria were crucial US allies in fighting ISIS and the current government in Afganistan didn't even exist before US forces overthrew the Taliban. They certainly depend on US aid to maintain their positions. Without American support, the Kurds stand to be crushed by Turkey, who considers them terrorists and the Taleban are gaining ground in Afganistan. Based on that I would say that the Kurds and the Afghan government consider themselves US allies, though I can't say if the feeling's mutual.
