01a Quick Start - Tracking [Mocha Essentials]

Now that we understand what planar tracking is, let's get into the nitty-gritty of creating a planar track. In this two-part exercise, you will be starting from the very basics of how to take a shot, create a planar track with it, and use that tracking and shape data in your host application. This first course focuses on creating a project in Mocha, learning the most important tools in the interface, a brief explanation of how the planar tracker works, and tracking parameters in essentials mode.
At the end of this brief two-part video, you will know the mechanics of using Mocha on a basic shot.

I am following this to the letter. Maybe it is an update that has removed this? I am in Essentials and launched the AE Mocha and both the brush and magnetic were missing? Were they removed in an update for Mocha AE?

The brush and the magnetic splines are only available in Mocha Pro. Mocha AE has the core shape tools to draw regular shapes, X-splines or bezier splines. Later tutorials in this series always call out whether a tool is available in Mocha AE or only Mocha Pro.

Why do I not see paint and pen tool?

The Magnetic tool and the Area Brush tool are only available in Mocha Pro. If you are working in Mocha AE then you won't see those tools.

Because of current host limitations, we recommend working with Mocha Pro in Fusion page of Resolve. This may change as Resolve gets further updates.

for those who didn't purchase the 299 USD Mocha pro plugin, this tutorial is useless because she is using tools that are not available in the Mocha AE plugin.

Nothing in this tutorial requires Mocha Pro. All the tracking and concepts behind the tracking are the same between products. Make sure you are running in Essentials workspace to see the same layout. Everything in this course up to Exercise 12 is designed for both Mocha Pro and Mocha AE users. Please let me know what tool was being used that you cannot find. Thanks.

@@borisfxlearn thank you for your answer. The magnetic tool is not available in AE hence it is not possible to follow along and complete the tutorial. I have tried selecting the hand with the spline and Bezier tools but they don't do a great job to match what she is doing.

The best way to handle this is with a loose x-spline around the hand. I think Mary was showing off the magnetic tool to make a shape that was more complex than it needed to be. A rough shape with maximum 6 points will be more than sufficient to get the track. Just cover the hand, and the screen track will be good. We cover roto work in Exercise 10 of this free course if you'd like to learn more about that. In all other exercises of this course we make it clear which tools are not available in Mocha AE. This one must have slipped by. Sorry about that.

????? what is everybody talking about!!? this is NOT a clear and concise tutorial!! I am still lost! Introduction to this tutorial for beginners should've started with the interface and identifying every single thing on that interface. I still don't know how you zoomed in and out because you didn't explain that button, you rushed through the different modes of the trackers without identifying them. I had to watch this video three times and I'm still lost. Now I've done some hard-core after effects Project but this is my first time ever using mocha pro and I just purchased it and I'm still trying to find a video that will introduce me to Mocha step-by-step as a first time user, that means that I want to know what the interface is and what every button does. This is definitely a frustrating video, at least for me.

If you carry on with Exercise 03, you'll see we take a step back and start to talk about Mocha Pro from the bottom up. It explains how Mocha tracking works, and what the different settings do.
