02/22/24: Corvette tops 170 mph in LA freeway chase

The Chase is On!

The driver of a dangerously high-speed Corvette seemingly evaded authorities after leading law enforcement on a chase from Pomona to downtown Los Angeles.
The pursuit began sometime before 11 p.m. in Pomona after officers attempted to yield a driver for a vehicle violation. Details on that violation were not immediately clear.
The high-speed driver traveled at speeds of more than 170 mph, zipping along freeways until eventually reaching downtown LA. The driver turned off the car's headlights while speeding between traffic, including a big rig, on a freeway.
The driver then weaved through streets until entering an underground parking structure. It is there where authorities believe the driver got away.

Yes I have a 2016 c7 z06. Not too sure if this is a z06 but when your in touring mode going 60mph it feels like 30mph. When your going 100 mph it feels like 70 mph. Very well built over all car. Now in track mode it's a different story. The steering is very stiff as is the suspension. The car jumps around alot.

They do not believe in running rainwater runoff through conduit in California. Runoff is at surface level. What he ran over was a concrete drainage channel. They can be pretty big and pretty deep. And they will tear apart the front end of your car, never mind the cats and mufflers. Even when you slow down you scrape things. I'm sure something on that car is damaged, as well as running over the pylon.
@JJFX-
@JJFX- Ай бұрын
@@Orcinus1967 Yeah I see that and am well aware of how terrible these can be around here. Regardless the placement is far from ideal which I guarantee has caused issues. There's a similar drainage ditch by a sharp turn near where I grew up which caused a few accidents over the years. Many of the roads in and around LA are simply awful and don't even get me started on the pothole problem.

That's a 2019 Vette, possibly a mid engine VETTE! If it's a C8, it may go faster than 170. You can't do a pit maneuver on a Fiberglass body, it's incredibly dangerous, if you want the occupant to survive! If anyone has a need for speed, take it to the track, if you want to drive like a maniac! Why doesn't the CHiP take this Vette, and make it part of their fleet? They have a transaxle, like my Porsche, so they don't fishtail, like the older ones. Has anti-skid brakes, etc. I've no idea why he rabbited, usually those of us w/muscle cars, don't do this. I've had many, since a teenager.

It's the same people that hate gun laws and hold up freedom MAGA. Nobody puts rules on me... CRAP. Rules are there to help the general public not protect the rights of criminals. Trump hates how he isn't getting away with lying on his taxes and to the banks. Remember how the GOP platform in 2016 was less gov't and reduce the IRS? Well, now we SHOULD know why... but don't of course. Illegal offshore accounts... well that's another bag of crap only MAGA benefits from, well, those with big bags of cash to hide fund the MAGA movement. They donate to the RNC so Trump can afford his lawyers. He loses anyways but they throw good money out to bad anyways. Now we SHOULD see why that is with Trump giving himself a huge tax cut and all his big bag rich people... but we don't. Anyone who make tons of cash like CNN/Fox News people benefited from those tax cuts. Silence and fake news is real but for a good reason, to get rich. Middle Class has to foot the bills for the national debt for % of wages earned. Rich pay more but dollar for dollar, they pay less, especially when they hide their money in offshore accounts. Do they talk about this on the news? Rarely for obvious reasons. Too long winded, probably lost 90% of the readers by now. This is the true American Dream, ignorance is blind.

“Looks like he’s driving really fast, yup he’s driving really fast it looks like he’s going straight on the freeway and continuing to go really fast, it’s a corvette so at most it could fit about 2 people, looks like he’s not planning on pulling over as he continues to go really fast straight on the freeway which it seems like he’s doing so he can keep driving really fast without having to stop at any lights.” Incredible commentary I would’ve never had a clue what was going on without her descriptive input.

It's not difficult, just drive to a tower block, I have many friends in such buildings or a large shopping centre, get out walk to the clothing store go into the charging rooms or just buy a different top and wear it out. Or the one I've heard just keep driving a helicopter runs out of fuel faster than you. Depending on the area we just have one helicopter here. Driving on the freeway doesn't work as police radios are faster than you. They just get cars ahead and radio them. You can outrun radio waves I know a few people who used the large tower block of flats way to escape the police a few times as they couldn't search 100 flats and they didn't have grounds either. They just say the car was stolen the next day. I know one guy who just jumped in the passenger seat when his friend got out to run and said the friend was driving. That one shocked me.

Theres nothing like feeling your legs trapped beyond the crumple zone into the cabin footwell and not knowing if your legs are still salvagable and if that wet sensation is nerve damage or vital body fluids while fire erupts and noxious smoke from plastics and rubber starts to fill the car - to make you think twice about driving too fast and in particular too close ever again! Things start seemingly small and soon teach you that all that energy of motion has to go somewhere and it can go the wrong way and make a passenger out of you in a hurry.

A local pizza company had had their yearly awards celebration the night before where a young manager was awarded the use of the company's canary yellow Corvette for the full month. The police reported an estimated speed of 100+ mph when the car hit a telephone pole exploding it into a fireball of fiberglass and engine components plus parts and pieces of the driver and his date. There wasn't anything left to determine use of alchohol or drugs for a DWI certainty but witnesses said cocaine and alcohol were probably a factor as the two had been seen taking them and showing signs of impairment because of it. I went back to the crash site after it had been cleaned up, and with the exception of yellow colored fiberglass shreds and melted aluminum fragments laying around a large burnt spot, there was nothing to suggest that two humans died there. The telephone pole aside from a little splintering was left barely showing a sign. I go by there even 40+ years later and think about it.

Car manufacturers suck. Once you start my car, you don't need the wireless key fob anymore. The dash indicates the key is out of range, but as long as you don't shut off the engine you can drive it until the engine seizes, which can be years. No wonder cars are so easily stolen. The insurance companies should refuse to insure cars like mine, that would make the manufacturers modify them so when you get 20 feet from the car, the engine stops.

The reporter/narrator is way too emotional to handle the job/task. "He's going to crash" .... "This is soooo scary" ... "This is sooo incredibly dangerous" ... "He is going soo incredibly fast". Vehicle code violation, vehicle code violation, vehicle code violation" ... yea, that is the charge, the only one? Reckless driving, ok. Failure to yield? Must be kidding. Reminds me of someone being charged a firearms violation after shooting and killing someone. PIT maneuver at 140MPH? I'm glad the reporter mentioned the stupidity of that idea. Unfortunately, the reporting made the driver look like the underdog. There was some mention of a similar issue with a Corvette in CA a week or so ago. There appear to be lots of high speed chases in CA. You have now documented a successful one ... stay tuned for more.

@@davidparker9676 I am Black and bald headed. I look like Vin Diesel. In all my years of racing, American motors dominate the drag strip and the street. That’s not to say that you can’t make an import go fast - I own a few 11 second German cars myself. But just about all the fast cars are General Motors (SBC) and Ford.

@@StreetFighter2010 American cars are garbage. You can't be competitive in any REAL racing in an American "muscle" car. The Corvette is a joke of a "sportscar" compared to real sportscars. Corvettes are marketed and sold to losers going through a midlife crisis, low testosterone and erectile dysfunction. When Chevy's top Camaro is lighter and faster than Chevy's "fiberglass bodied" "exotic sportscar" flagship vehicle, you know what a joke it is. Drag racing, Nascar etc are not real racing and at that competitive level, the cars don't have a single GM or ford part on them... even the engine block is made by Dart or some other manufacturer. Japanese & German sports cars easily make more HP per cubic inch or CC. All you have to do to see how ridiculous Ford, GM and Dodge "muscle cars" are is see how many get totaled because they can't corner and can't stop worth sh1t. American "muscle" is crap, look at all of the bad HEMI engines that can't even be used for light duty without having lifter problems. Chevy and Ford can't build anything that doesn't quickly turn to scrap.
