Dang. Holy cow. Either you don’t sleep and work on the layout 24/7 or you quietly have an army working on it. Wow. That’s truly amazing. Congratulations.

Mark did an incredible job on the rock work, thanks for sharing his methods. Did he use any kind of a mold release? It’s amazing how realistic the rocks look and how much they changed that area. I’m looking forward to more and then the coloring method you use. Great job filming and holding the camera still.
@EvanstonSub2 жыл бұрын
He did not use any mold release other than water.
@davidcurtis53982 жыл бұрын
I use "wet water" as a mold release.

This is by far the best demo of using rock molds I’ve ever seen. To date, I have hand carved Plaster of Paris with good results. Problem is one can only work in small areas with each “pour.” I hate using hydrocal in rock mounds because it breaks apart so easily. Now, I’m encouraged to use your method. The results are fantastic. Great video!

Thanks. I just hope I can continue his good work on the rest of the layout, not to mention getting the colors right.

Looks good Daryl I can see Castle Rock Tunnel is taking shape and the line is slowly reaching Wasatch. Next up paint it all brown and finish the line to Wasatch and build the yard at Evanston.

Suggestion I use a dark Brown latex paint in the water to color the plaster cloth so you don't have all that white looking at you.

When I mix plaster (and I prefer it), I always use very cold water. I use a gallon milk jug, fill it with water, and put it in the fridg the night before. This will give me about a 20 minute "soft time". Another thing I hear you can do is to mix a teaspoon of baking powder per cup of plaster and that is supposed to slow the setting of the plaster about 1/2. SO with the cold (not just cool - cold) water and the baking powder you might have 30 to 45 minutes of "wet time". I also sift the plaster into the water as I stir with a whisk from the kitchen. I use a lot of smaller castings and I don't have any areas this big. I make all of the molds that I use. Cheaper than trying to buy them and I have many different ones for a lot less than buying them.

Mark is a artist. Good stuff. I’m still an n scale guy, but what the hell. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with in this HO Scale sub of a popular location to model. Cheers 🍻 and lots of beer’s.
