#02 Pentax K1000 Light Seal Replacement

I replace the light seals on a Pentax K1000. After much struggling with old foam removal (it turns into goo) and the new foam sticking where it should not but not where it should I have a usable camera. Next up is to check the shutter speeds are close to what the dial says and then finally run a roll of film through it.

I have had good luck with their kits (this is my third light seal replacement) but their may be other kits that are just as good.
Video filmed on a Pixel 3xl.
Audio is recorded using a Zoom ZH1 since using the phone mic last time was terrible. This was not too bad volume wise, have to work on my radio voice.

This is one of the easiest, most pleasant and interesting tutorials I think I have ever seen.I have a pentax K1000 and a Canon AV1 which both need shutter foams.This video is the best.So clear and calm explanations and thank you for the link to the parts.Thankyou so much from NZ where we can't get anything.🙂

A cheat is to just run a tooth pick down the film light seals, then use black 100% cotton yarn instead of those over priced pre cut light seals and for the mirror light seal you can use felt with a adhesive backing. when I did my Pentax Super Program and If I remember right it was 1mm wide and 30-40mm long for the mirror light seal.

Thanks for the tutorial - maybe just beginner luck but I managed to get the mirror dampener in place without wetting it just using my fingers.

That lefover foam was for the fuzzy part

How the hell do you get the backing off the shutter foam. I have literally rebuilt engines and I can't get this to come off with out ripping

I have used a sharp knife, like an exacto knife, and slipped it under the paper.
