I think chatgpt is good for well documented boilerplate but falls apart when you have specific use cases. Also as a newbie to avalonia this series is excellent and has taught me a ton. Thanks

ChatGPT definitely has a long way to go in terms of accurate information. But what I really enjoy about using ChatGPT for help with programming is that even if it is wrong, you can talk with it and discuss all of the issues in real time in order to establish a clear thought process. The way ChatGPT boosts my productivity is that even if it gets some things wrong, at the very least it tells me where to begin thinking on things I may be stumped on or even introduce a new light into the way I am currently thinking (I am a noob though so I expect that the issues with ChatGPT are much more glaring on the professional level).

I had a similar experience where ChatGPT produced Avalonia Editor sample code that didn’t compile and even the approach was wrong. That said, ChatGPT was able to solve a programming test that I had been giving to potential candidates.

I use ChatGPT regularly to either write boilerplate, sample code so I don't need to read through manuals and API reference, or to just transform data, like turn a table of names, descriptions and values into a properly commented and named enum list (you can copy data from e.g. Excel into the chat field as tab-delimited data). It does save quite some time, although ChatGPT only has the attention span of a toddler, so you need to repeat your instructions often, and scold it when it starts forgetting them again.

I spent many hours searching for the required bass.dll. I’m studying your lessons on Windows 10 in Visual Studio 2022. So this DLL was not in my operating system. I had to look for it on the official website and copy it to the win32 folder. 🤕

It's only good at document code and fails anything complex. The longer you have a conversation the worse the results are

You need to learn how to interact with ChatGPT. Yes, it will give you wrong answers, but if you are very specific about the problem you encounter ("there is no property named id on DeviceInfo") it will usually come up with a correction. If you keep it too vague or too high level, you will get nowhere.

It's pretty well known now it's useless. It's just feeding off the same back end as search engines and 99.9% of the time it's quicker to just learn correctly and do it properly not using AI
