Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Or, if you prefer "Cash App" you can use: cash.me/$Lifeprint Every little bit helps so much! Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

Really love this series! Hope it continues. It's fun to break up the more academic learning sometimes with more casual and colloquial sign conversation.

Thanks Miles! I enjoy producing this series, (plus it helps Rach prepare for the interpreter certification test). So, I plan to continue doing what I can with the time and energy available to me.

You're the best! I'm wondering when you'd use the "reflection" pun? I graduate in May with a Human Services to the Deaf and a minor in interpreting. Thank you
@sign-language5 жыл бұрын
Good question. Puns are generally used for entertainment and/or amusement. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to entertain or amuse someone feel free to whip out the "pun" version of "reflection" and enthrall them with your wittiness. I reckon some enterprising individual might use it in a poem or as part of a song. Since the "pun" version of "reflection" takes literally twice as much work as simply spelling the word "reflection" with one hand -- there is little use for the sign other than "word" play (or in this case -- "sign play").

Is there an episode 23 somewhere that I'm not seeing?
@sign-language5 жыл бұрын
23 was originally uploaded June 7th, 2019 so you may have seen it already. Originally 23 was called something else and was renamed to 23 as part of an effort to get organized and create a playlist for the Vocabulary Expansion Series (which was the best playlist for that particular video). The full name of that video is now: "023 ASL American Sign Language Vocabulary Expansion Series (Dr. Bill) (Rach)" Here's the current link for that video so you can check if you've watched it yet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHPPYYqlg6-oqbs Here's the VES playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PL6akqFwEeSphFk5WhAsdppNjXwdQo2MLh

Good news then. I have recorded a number of jewelry-related videos and they are in my queue for processing and upload. Cäsar and I did them over the summer. It is only a matter of time before they are posted to KZbin.

For the Pun version of "reflection"... Are you spelling the word 'reflection' ?? Your fingers were moving too fast for me to understand. Also did you say your grandma is "underground" ?? Is that what that sign means??
@sign-language4 жыл бұрын
Hello :) 1. The pun version of "reflection" in general spells the word reflection with both hands palms facing each other. It doesn't matter if each letter is "clearly" done or even if a letter is skipped or mumbled. In real life fingerspelling as done on the hands of skilled signers is often the equivalent of scrawled cursive. This allows it to be fast and effective for real life communication. 2. I'm not going to spend many minutes watching the video to try and find whatever part of the video where I mention something about my grandma. Nor do I have every minute of over 400 videos memorized. If you want help with questions about what you see in the videos then do your part by making it easy for others to find the exact part of the video you want to know more about. Tip: If you have questions about specific signs in the videos please include a time code such as 0:00 in your comment. KZbin turns time codes into links that let others jump to the exact spot in the video to which you are referring.

Top of your monitor is cut off =P
@sign-language5 жыл бұрын
Hello Joel! Yup, I noticed that too. I'm Deaf not Blind. (Heh, forgive me -- couldn't resist). This was a first run in a new recording location. It (the monitor issue) was one of the hazards of operating on a shoestring budget while juggling lots of other projects to keep the studio afloat and running. The monitor being cut off a bit on top was a deliberate concession at the time since everything else was set up, turned on, and ready to go. Rach drives over an hour to get here (and often has to "get to class") so sometimes it is just best to go ahead and get "something" recorded instead of to keep futzing around with the equipment or "stage" and miss a recording window. Prior to recording that session the monitor was reflecting a massive amount of glare from the lights in this particular studio area so I actually tipped the monitor forward about 5 inches and stuck a small block under the back of the stand to keep it leaning forward. For what it is worth, this weekend I'll be drilling through the metal post holes and lowering the monitor plus adding a tilting mount to tilt it downward enough to reduce glare while keeping it at the right height. Take care and warm regards! Excelsior!

I would totally volunteer to help with tech stuff if I lived closer! But Im all the way in Maryland. But if there is anything I can do to help feel free to ask! I love your vids and I have literally practiced with them all. And until i took up ASL in college I was using your online paid classes. (May rejoin that.)

Always more to learn and do it seems. Today I found a certain tripod and adapter in my back room that (interestingly) do an excellent job of holding that particular monitor (instead of the heavy-duty TV stand). The tripod isn't quite as stable but the monitor is relatively small and light so I reckon it will work out fine for the next recording session.
