This really helped us change the alternator on my car ourselves .. I really appreciate how detailed you were - telling us how many screws, what size socket we needed .. I know nothing about cars and we would have been lost without your video! Thank you so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am in no way mechanically inclined. I didn't have anything but an extremely cheap set of tools that I received years ago as a gift. Your video helped me immensely. It was definitely a process for me, but I came out the victor in this struggle. It saved me about $250 from the best quote I got for an actual mechanic to do the work, not counting having to use a rideshare while my car would've been out of commission.

I used your video to replace the alternator on my wife's Mazda. It's a pretty straightforward process, did take me about 3 hours though as I had a hard time reaching some of the bolts and that damn tensioner. Thank you for making this video.

Thanks for the video! Helped a lot. FYI you can reach the tensioner from the top with a 15mm box wrench and there is a plastic clip holding a wire on that bottom bracket. Thanks again!

Thx for the video because of you i was able to do it myself.. only issue was stripped bolts from whoever did it before.. i was able to use a special tool for that.. also to get the alternator out was a pita. Thanks!
@garysiegel51123 жыл бұрын
You are right. Even when unbolted with all the attachments off, getting the alternator out is a pita. Tight squeeze back there.

I just checked the Autozone website and they specify tightening all three Alternator Mounting Bolts to 29 Foot Pounds. I thought it strange that the top bolt got torqued to less than half the torque of the bottom bolts; that doesn't make sense since the heads are the same size. Where did you get the torque specifications for the bolts?

@michaeldamico42852 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit concerned why the top single 13mm Alternator Mounting Bolt is torqued to 18 Ft. Pounds but the bottom two 13mm Bolts are torqued to over twice that. Do you have any idea why the torque is so much on the bottom two bolts? Thanks for your help.

is the current coming from the power plug before starting?I have a Mazda like that the current does not reach the power plug
@ls1camaro923 жыл бұрын
The hot wire coming off the alternator should have current yes. And the excite wire should ignite once vehicle is running, not while it’s off.

Alright so I guess I was rechecking the Bolts and overtightened the top alternator bolt and now it’s lose and won’t tighten. I’m also getting a vtec whirl from the alternator and my car stalled this morning as I slowed down at the red light . Is the lose bolt the problem here or do I need a new belt ?
@ls1camaro923 жыл бұрын
Is this vehicle even charging? Is there slack in the belt? Have the alternator checked at a parts store. They can check to see if your charging or not for free. May need to check all pulleys for any drag if it’s sounding out of the norm.
@SergioTorres-nt1xm3 жыл бұрын
Well the battery is reburbished. Got it before I bought the new alternator. The wirl sound only happens when I accelerate . I’m hoping it’s just a new belt

Second Chance Repair. Well I did it. It did take me a few hours with the help of a friend. Bolts were just rust-stuck to the parts because of winter salt. (Chicago) That and the location of the alt and my no experience whatsoever added up in time . Live n learn...
