I was kinda torn watching this game, I was a Fab Five fan at the time and I also grew up in the D.C. area so I was excited to see GW do well, it was a great game, and thank you for posting this!

I’m a big Michigan state fan and I really hate the wolverines but you couldn’t be anything but impressed if you were a kid back even though they never won. They had so much talent. One thing I don’t get is how in 1993 michigans uniforms with black socks and black shoes look better than anything teams wear now in 2019? I mean shit, some kids are wearing daisy dukes now a days?Are you kidding me. Michigans uniforms now are garbage these kids looked sharp

Well, they sorta played Duke and UNC, Donald Williams had the game of his Life and Duke was Loaded. Had Webber came back for Year 3, then things woulda got real interesting.

This GW team was one of the least-heralded teams ever to make the Sweet 16 at the time. I don't think they played a single game on national television that year, and no one really paid any attention to the A-10 outside of UMass and Temple in those days. Plus they lost in the first round of the conference tournament so they didn't play in the rounds that were televised. When they got picked on Selection Sunday, then when they won two games in the tournament, everyone was like "huh, who?" "Michigan is playing who?"

Billy Packer sure pulled the trigger too early when it was 15-2.

You know, looking back at this Michigan Fab 5, they really were more beatable then maybe I once believed. All it took was a team with great 3 point shooting, because that's what this Fab 5 actually lacked, with all the talent they DID have. But even in the 90's, I guess the 3-point shot wasn't as utilized as it came to be in later years (Which is unfortunate because College and Pro ball is pretty much all about 3-point shooting now smh)

12:00. Seth Davis would have tweeted Michigan sharpie by now. Then Michigan got cocky and lackadaisical and almost lost.

There was a play in this game(not sure where)that summiarized a lot of peoples feelings about the Fab 5. A Michigan player slammed home a pretty brutal dunk and told a GW player about it. Jim Nantz had the quote of"That's the problem some people have with the Wolverines"

JPP's Fingers you mean older white people. Not younger kids and teenagers back then. Shit I hate the wolverines since I’m a sparty fan but I even liked fab 5 back then

We just ball different as black folks.. Talking shit is part of the game for us, its whatever. I never played a game where there was no trash talk ever.. And i balled 24/7

Agree with other commenters here; it was the problem a lot of white people had with 5 brash black kids. What King did there was unneccesary, but hardly unusual...lots of players shouted after big dunks, but only Fab 5 members got heavily criticized.

I never realized how bad of a coach Steve Fisher is. GW comes back from down 15-2 and you would think that he would call a timeout or something. They barely use Webber in their offense. Almost every time he scores, its on a put back or off of someone else's creation of space. Michigan also doesn't handle the ball really well either. Which actually makes sense, as they don't have a true point guard. Rose and King are both off guards. And nobody on the team shoots very well.
@darshloaf5 жыл бұрын
After reading Mitch Albom's book about this team, that's untrue. Even in games where teams packed the paint, Fisher would say things like "don't take the bait; pound it inside!" He knew how to coach and knew what he had in Webber.
@terrypowers78064 жыл бұрын
Saying all of that it makes me realize how good of a coach he was. Taking an all freshman and sophomore class to the championship game two years in a row takes a good coach.
@alexh86134 жыл бұрын
@@terrypowers7806 They were an all freshman and then sophomore team, but they were also the #1, #3, #6, #9, and #46 ranked freshmen in the country. The first year was impressive, but the second year was a huge let down.

Tons of talent, but they were the best team money could buy. Almost 30 years later, and still think these guys were the biggest collection of punks to take a college court. Disrespect and showing up opponents while collecting paychecks, yet they won nothing.
