The difference between Grant and Robinson is about the same as the difference between Lebron and Carmelo. Both are great but Grant is way more well-rounded. He really made it hard for Big Dawg to find his groove, meanwhile completely controlled the flow of the game on offense. Hill's court vision and playmaking was outstanding.

Robinson was an absolute beast at Purdue. This was a complete team effort by Duke. Hill was the glue though. Covered up a lot. I thought this was a great coaching job by K, they came within a minute of a 3rd title in 4 yrs against a superior Arkansas squad in the finals.

@charlesgreen87033 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about Grant being the best player in Duke history...but you do have to understand that the following year they had lost A LOT from this team due to graduation... Hill,Lang,and Clark were all gone...and were without Coach K due to a severe back problem most of that season,before he took a leave of absence they were a top 10 team...and they lost a lot of close games many by less than 10 points...most famously the Double Overtime Game against UNC...it wasn’t that they didn’t have talent,they did...but without Coach K there things just didn’t go well...had Coach K been there,they might have made another final four run...YES Coaches like Coach K do make that big a difference...

If we would've had a better idea at the time how great Grant Hill was, Duke beating UNLV in '91 wouldn't be viewed as that big of an upset.

@@Seth_Himself97thing is Gavin he was a Top 15-20 recruit nationally from the Class of '90 but several guys above him got more cred and because Grant meshed in at Duke as opposed to him going somewhere else, he wouldn't have been as overlooked! He was without a doubt the difference between Duke '90 being annihilated by Vegas then circa '91 when Duke got their payback! But what people also forget so often in this conversation is that without their leadership and do everything guys David Butler and Moses Scurry in '91, Vegas was a completely different and less deep of a team! And also remember Vegas was rarely and I mean rarely tested late in games in '91! I've been a die-hard Duke fan since the 1981-82 season and to say that the '94 teams' miraculous run was anything less than an overachieve would be an understatement! Besides our five national championships, I've never been more prouder of any other of our squads than 1994! Still proud of them to this very day!

been watching basketball since 82 and talent wise this maybe the worst Duke team I've seen but the greatness of hill & his outstanding overall game was able to compensate for everything Duke lacked. this is a perfect example of why hill was so such a great player. we only got prime hill for 6 years but how he was able to reinvent himself after the injuries & reinvent himself into a effective defensive stopper/point forward. that's still enough for me to call him one of the 10 greatest sf's ever.
@timsmith10338 жыл бұрын
thanks Grant hill is still my favorite all time player. he was just so smooth & played so smart. he could have put up more scoring numbers but knew it wasn't necessarily the best for the team. he knew in order to win he needed to elevate his teammates & did so with his tremendous rebounding, passing, defense & picking his spots offensively.

I was at this game! When Duke took that t/o after PU went up 10, K spent the entire t/o almost at mid-court staring down the refs. He never went in the huddle. The game turned totally after that. Someone else mentioned that Collins and Martin now coach NW and Cal respectively. Capel is an assistant at Duke again and Brandon Brantley is now an assistant at PU and Linc Darner is the coach at Wisky Green Bay. Pretty amazing. Oh, and Matt Waddell is NOT a stiff. He was a really good player and also went to pharmacy school and i think is now an exec with Lilly.
