You need to check the kill switch, incase you've got dirty contacts in the kill switch due to water ingress, when the kill switch fails the petrol pump also fails. The kill switch kills the engine and fuel pump at the same time as a safety measure. Try turning the kill switch on and off fast multiple times to clear any dirt then try to start the bike, also listen for the petrol pump kicking in.

UPDATE! So I've been doing some voltage tests on the relays. I get proper 12V from the fuel cut relay on both red wires. I get proper voltage on the engine cut off relay as well. I'm now thinking it is the ECU. Which sucks. But something is being grounded out. So my next step is to follow and test any ground and check for shorts in any grounds. I'll check back with all you to give an update. Thanks for all the help people!

Peter williams... I'm still working on it. I've been so busy, every now and then I have been fiddling with it. I took the tape off the harness and haven't found any breaks or splices. At this point, I'm leaning more towards either the ECU, which I doubt, or somewhere in the pin connectors on the bike it's getting a bad connection, maybe a bad lead. So I'll be getting some CDC isoelectric cleaner, then putting in some CDC dielectric grease to clean the contacts and protect them.

hey my fuel pump primes on my 08 honda cbr 1000rr, battery and fuses are good. I can't figure out whats wrong all i did was install a GPR DAMPER and spoke to them they said the wire from the old damper wouldn't effect the bike turning on. any thoughts ?

Mine was the safety thing. It had fell over and I tore my bike apart trying to figure it out. Finally I seen that box and on the back say top and a arrow pointing up when I mounted it back bamb. Fixed. It’s under the head lights

Ive heard there is a resister in the ignition that goes bad. It is supposed to send 9 volts to the pink wire. The way to tell its bad is take a 9 volt battery disconect pink wire from ignition connect pink wire to pos on 9 volt and ground neg. If it starts and is fine you need ignition switch or a regular supply of 9 volt batterys.

Correct. It's a zener diode in the ignition switch, just under the key hole.

I have the same problem I just hot wire the fuel pump relay to run when the key is on. Five minute job and I am back on the road. If you want to trace down to the root of the problem is usually a corroded ground wire.

It's probably your ignition switch that pink wire is what does the fuel pump so there's a diode thing in the back of your ignition and it takes 12 volt and turns it into 9 because it's a theft type deal so if you take that pink wire and take a 9 volt 9 volt battery and hook that up when you turn the key on the fuel pump see if that'll run if it turns on then yeah it's your ignition

On the bottom of your ignition switch there is Zener diode 3,9V/0.5W which provide 9V to the ECU through pink wire. You should replace this diode.

Same issue. 09 Fireblade, I was riding about a week ago and I stopped when I got to town to call my wife for like ten minutes. tried to start it, nothing. my oil level was pretty low so I went ahead and put two quarts 10w 40 in, fired up after a few tries. got it home, fired up once I parked. tried it a couple times. next morning, nothing. Paid a guy 160, he replaced my starter switch and fuel pump relay. vrought the bike back, rode it but sounded like a v twin, vacuum line was disconnected. next day rode it sounded fine but was losing power. Stopped to make a call couldn't start. After five minutes fired up, got ne to my appointment. after appointment, sat for like an hour trying to get it started and fired up. rode it to the gym right after, turned off an on a couple times, good. after gym, wouldn't start without having to hold the start switch. I eventually killed my battery trying to start it. I've since replaced all fuses. starter solenoid, and battery. same shit. I know for a fact it's not the tip sensor because I've been riding the hell oht of it and haven't messed with that area of my bike. yesterday I tapped on the little black box next to the solenoid and it fired up, but only whole holding the starter button. then nothing again. all of my dash indicator lights come on, but no fuel pump. did you have any luck?

No. No luck yet. I haven't had the time to work on it, it's just sitting in the garage still apart. But It's sound like a lose wire or a break in the line/circuit somewhere. Yours might be that same thing. It's so weird and intermittent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'll be working on it this week. I wanna try and ride before it gets to cold.

What did the problem end up being on ur cbr with the fuel pump not primimg when u go to start it off. Ihave the same exact issue allof a sudden my bike wont start im not to biker mechanic educated. , but with the help of utube vidz and discussions ive become a back yard mechanic, anyway i have a 01 honda cbr 929. Bought it 2 years ago last week changed exhaust ,just slip ons,small accident last summer replaced ferringsright side ,but have had all ferrings off put back on ,clutchcover gasket replaced stator cover gasket replaced ,added led lights spliced into harness to rewire headlights for fitting rewired tail lights ,added blinkers and led angel eyes ...... All worked fine after all work done then one day bike stalled took seat off wiggled wires cause headlight wenr out ,it started .so assumed it was a loose wire now bike wont start at all no prime noise once in a while it primes and starts but intermentently it does iys cycle nomstart ,start no run ,run... Did u fix ur issue .sorry for the long drawn out question just trying to be as precise as possible

When I see this cable mess on your bike I would suspect pinched cable somewhere. Try to move the cables around while ignition on if the pump will go alive.

I would just get all the wiring with all its plugs and swap it...I hate working with cut up and attachched wires like that get the wiring and you won't have to deal with that problem again

Hey mate, just a question. My bike, cbr 600 rr 2004, is lately stalling in neutral at stops even clutched in and also while riding will lose power for a second or two or will jerk forward sometimes as I deccelerate. Do you have any idea what the issue might be? Thanks

I known it sounds cliche but it could be a number of issues. I would first get some clean fuel in there and also check the fuel filter. I believe it's by/in the pump assembly. Check if the fuel pump is priming consistently as it should. Without gravity, it needs to be fed all the time so it shouldn't turn off while running. You can check that by watching my video and checking the voltage at the relay. Then check spark plugs since they're relatively easy. Pull it out, turn the bike over and see if there's a spark, but be careful not to shock yourself...it hurts. Check the gapping on the spark plug as well. I don't know what the specs should be but a Google search will do the trick. You could also check the killswitch itself. Sometimes they go out intermittently. Those would be good places.

Just fixed it. 04 cbr600rr uk spec. No pump prime. Cranks over ok. No start. 2 faults found. 1. Corrosion. An intermittant "open" in the BLUE multi socket (a small red/white wire) that runs between tilt angle sensor (near headlight) and engine kill relay (one of the 3 identical relays (RADFAN...ENGINE...FUELPUMP) . This wire provides an earth to the engine kill relay (solenoid side) which works against it's power down from the kill switch (only) when in the run position and IGN on . Wiggled BLUE socket and relay would click in and out as I did it. Bypassed bad pins to fix that. But bloody hell....still no "pump prime" until I found........ 2. MORE Corrosion. A very very high resistance in (black/white)wire between the engine kill relay and the fuel pump cutoff relay. A link between the two relays finally got it sorted. The wire loops up the nasty taped harness from the kill relay and back down the same harness to feed the f.p. relay that sits right next to it! . It took 5 hrs studying wiring diagrams to corner the bastard and 5 seconds with a paperclip to fix! Haynes manual wiring diagram essential or you risk getting very lost...... Earths are green. Black/whites are relay-controlled lives for the coils/injectors etc . Pinks are ECU output switched earths for injectors etc. (don't stick power up 'em or you might fry the ecu chips) Fat reds are BAT live or IGN live. Red/whites seem to be earth returns......i could go on!!! Hope this helps someone somewhere someday. P.S This particular machine does not have the "pinkwire-zener-9voutput" type ign switch other people have mentioned. It does however have "HISS".

Hey y'all I fixed mine... There was 3 wires that's go to the back of the ignition and one of the wires was broke off but if I touch that wire to were it was soldered on the pump will fire up and while ur holding the wire there start it and it should stay running... Mine did hope this helps

No i havent fixed it yet. I haven't replaced the relays yet. I'm thinking it's that but you never know. I've been searching through the wiring harness to see anything that was spliced or cut recently and nothing so far. I curious to see if the BAS (bank angle sensor) is bad...even though that rare. I'll keep the status posted if anything changes. I'm running out of summer heat though, so I need to get on it.

check pin 24 on the ecu the brown wire coming from the relay it goes to the ecu and becomes loose if the bike fell. i had the same problem and that was the fix for my bike

snoopyfix2 Mate...I just rebuilt it, from a bare frame up. It's taken over a year of my spare time, and a good deal of dollars. It wouldn't fire up, after firing up first time, every time, during the build. Today...it started, and promptly broke a ring. Shattered! On a bright note, I can give the ports a tickle, while i'm rebuilding the engine. As for yours, run the pump from a power source (making sure you keep a fuel flow going through it, of course, and wiggle the wires to make sure it's not the pump wires. If they're all good, chase the loom side back to their origin, and rewire from there to the plug. Check the plug pins, too, to make sure they're secure, and not corroded.
