I LOVE... the back...i strive for pretty backs but dont always make it... it would be helpful to know which direction to press the seams to achieve that... but... i also LOVE the block... spring has sprung

This year I started pressing the seams open and I am so pleased with the results. I rarely press the seams to one side now. Try pressing open, I think you will be pleased as well. Thanks for watching.

@@CarolThelen oh, golly! I lived 18 years in Killeen, Texas. I was very happy there, but was still excited to move to a small village in Michigan to retire. (We have one stoplight.) I love it here, and don't miss the over 100 degrees summer days. When it snows, my husband puts on his boots and warm clothes, smiles at me, and says, "It's not 110!" as he grabs the snow shovel. But I do miss the bluebonnets. So glad you are enjoying them.

Love this sunflower block--you know exactly what it is due to the construction and inspired color choices. Looks like a shortcut could be achieved by snowballing a center square for the middle.

@@CarolThelen You could technically put the cat's cradle in the corners, but I think that your corner blocks are more simply constructed and fewer seams. I don' t see that application elsewhere.

Love all your videos and blocks! I watch each first thing in the mornings with my coffee. I’m wondering how to resize this block to a 9” finished block?? I love, love this block. Sunflowers are my favorite! I don’t have EQ.

Ann, I'm not sure you can do this on a 9" block. The block is on a 4x4 grid. 3x3 grids can work with a 9" block.

I agree with Leisa-Land. It's difficult to go from a 4x4 grid to a 3x3.

Idk if I said this before but I love ur teaching techniques, you break things down make things so easy to understand…I look forward to your videos each morning. I’m going to make 4 of these sunflower blocks and make a summer wallhanging for my kitchen. Thank you for doing these videos, I for one appreciate the time and effort you put into these. For the sunflower center couldn’t I just cut a 6.5” square piece of fabric and snowball the corners versus cutting 4 3.5” squares and doing the stitch and flip method?? Or is there a reason you prefer doing it this way?

No reason for cutting 4 smaller squares. It would work perfectly if you cut a 6.5" square. Less cutting and sewing too! You kitchen will look lovely with a sunflower wall hanging! Thanks for watching.

Cute block. I am wondering how you get your open seams to lay so flat and look so even. I am ironing my seams open, but with some thicker angles they do not lay as flat as your does. I am using a block press when I iron, but still yours looks exact, mine not so much🙄

I use starch and I use a half round piece of wood trim covered with batting. It is called a pressing bar and I made it myself. You can buy these and most of them are covered in wool. This helps to open the seam and it raises the seam up so you press just the seam. Also I press really hard at the thicker angles. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

@@CarolThelen AH, sounds great, I will try and find one. I do starch my stuff, but with seams thicker with the Tri recs block, they get cumbersome to handle.

Hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm in the process of making a tissue box cover and am using this for the sides, so I halved the pattern. Do you know what the seam allowance should be in this case? Would it be halved as well?

No, the seam allowance should always be 1/4". What a cute cover that will be!
