Golden Axe (Arcade) - Speedrun

depois de ficar um tempo sem jogar com a tyris, resolvi treinar algumas estratégias e fazer novas runs e ai consegui esse tempo nunca antes visto de 6 e 28 mas nao foi nada fácil. pra fazer esse tempo tem q ser bem rapido em alguns pontos e ter boa destreza. a ultima fase é a mais difícil de conseguir otimizar certinho com as estratégias e depende em alguns casos de RNG tb. eu ainda quase caguei tudo se tivesse pegado o dragão no final, mas felizmente deu tudo certo (depois de milhões de tentativas e rages, vale lembrar). nao sei se é possível abaixar mais o tempo mas creio q talvez seja.

I thank all the good comments, from players and fans of this great classic, but there are some things I need to say. There are some stupid comments from some idiots, saying that the game is not complete, or that I played on easy difficulty. that's a lie. Most people who say this shit don't know the game. As I've explained many times, downstab is the strongest attack in the game and it can kill the weakest enemies with just one hit. Stronger enemies or bosses require 2 or 4 downstabs. death adder needs 8. this is known throughout the golden axe community. Even playing on an advanced difficulty (hard) the only thing that changes is your amount of life and your energy bar, which is reduced. The enemies' lives do not change. To those who say "the game is not complete" this is the arcade version my friend. Only in the Genesis version do we have an extra level, inside the castle and we face Death Bringer, Death Adder's mentor. Therefore, anyone who doesn't know the game, avoid making stupid and envious comments. Don't be idiots.

The game is clearly on a lower setting. I played this from when it came out in 1989 and you can't defeat the non boss characters with one downward blow at every stage of the game. This does work for the weaker ones at the start. You're doing the same with the skeletons on the eagle's back 😂. You also defeated these enemies with one dragon attack, this doesn't happen. You took out the first boss Knight with one dragon strike and full magic when he should've required another few hits. Death Adder took a few blows after full magic. I never knew this game had lower difficultly levels until today so new things learned. Nice use of the ledges etc.

It doesn't matter if you played this in 89 or any other year, you're wrong. lt bitter (first knight), dies with a dragon attack and Tyris's full magic. That's more than enough my friend, I don't know which world you live in. eagle skeletons die with a single downstab. From the next level onwards they need more than 1 downstab. death adder requires 8, but using Tyris' full magic, we only use 6 downstabs. The difficulty is normal, this has not been changed. It seems that many people have some deficiency in understanding this. I posted this comment to clarify things, but I still see that there are idiots...

(1 life,2 bars). the enemies lives are not changed, regardless of whether you play in easy, normal or hardest mode. everything is ok. People who don't understand this are idiots, I'm sorry. It seems like they don't want to see things in front of their eyes.

tyris is the best character for speedruns, because her magic is stronger. the damage with sword is the same for the 3 characters. downstab normally kills commons enemies with just 1 hit.

Yes In the genesis you kill death adder and save the king and princess and then go to one more level to fight death bringer and his two almost immortal skeletons. This did not happen in the arcade

I remember playing this all the time growing up in the 80s and early 90s. When I first beat it I was surprised and stuff, but then was sad because I realized the game was shorter than I thought. It feels like its 1 level short in the arcade version. I didnt care for the extra level added in the home version because of how exploitable all the edges and pits were. But its still fun. Good work and congrats!

As a kid, my dad bought me and my sister a 386, and we found this game somewhere. We didn't understand much about computers but this was mind-blowing and tough. As kids this felt really hard, but you make it look so easy. Great job, you put a smile on this face

I played this on Sega at early 90s, i was hanging out with my friends after finishing school and playing golden axe in duet, it was fun and simple to play.. time flying, now i am 41 years old but still love this graphic and story. Thanks for bring back the nostalgia😮😢

Congratulations!! Great game play!! Picked up some useful strats too. A.I manipulation in this game is a hit and miss for me. You have to be in the right place on the screen to get your enemies to follow you and then get them with the down stab, that is the frustrating bit but thanks to videos like yours, more players can pick and enjoy this arcade classic from Sega. You mean to tell me that I’ve been using the wrong character since it came out in the arcade when I was a kid? I never knew you could one hit the enemies. And it seems like that her magic is actually doing some damage. That’s why I never felt like the 2 dudes magic did anything at all. It was because hers was way stronger. I always stuck with the little Viking guy all these years. That’s why now I can barely pass this game on the Switch version because I use up all my lives and continues. I also come up short by 1 life trying to pass Golden Axe ll on the Switch. I’m glad I found this video. It very informative. Thank you.

God, this is probably the best looking version of the game. I remember it looking a bit worse back on PC. And who has ever witnessed this on those super old computers which had only CGA displays? I even played the one that could only display a green color. Now that was something!

Wow! Nice job on the quick playthrough! I've only played the Amiga500 and C64 versions of this, and usually as the dwarf, but I can't remember that the down-jump attack killed everything in on one hit. Is that a feature of the arcade version or just Tyris Flare's version doing that much damage? Also, did you use Tyris because of her strong magic to quickly clear bosses, or is there another thing that makes her the most useful?

The downward stab is a one hit kill for (most) smaller characters in the earlier stages of the game. Works for all characters and in all versions.

yeah... the physical damage is the same for all characters. the down stab, is the strongest move and kills all the first common enemies with a single hit. but we speedrunners choose to play with tyris for its stronger magic and also for its lighter movement. in the mega drive version it is also like this and she is the fastest character and her flying kick is much more useful
