Great vid and info. I once worked on a '04 Jetta with a no start and P0336. Tossed in a new crank sensor and cleared the codes. Go to start it and no change with the same code back on. Come to find out, it was a fuel pump that was dead. Tossed in a new pump and all was good.

cent31119 Ah', it's like Schrdoingers Box saying it's a reference code. That sensor is reporting a problem vaguely, rather than the PCM reporting the sensor.

Kerry Kozma The version of PP he is using has a volt meter on the LCD. If there was voltage drop he probably would have noticed it? An intermittent short to ground while under load is going to be damn near impossible to track down without a helper. A brick on the gas pedal is not a helper unless you live in the deep south where people's famous last words are "check this out yeeehawww".

dude you need an oscilloscope with a low amp probe for fuel pump circuits, you'll see it clearly in the graphic when it starts giving trouble or when doing a wiggle test with the harness if its bad, love your videos i'm kind of binge watching all the subaru stuff now

this video was very helpful my mazda 3 is the same year and engine and I have the exact problem with it right now. Now that I saw your video I know now that it's the fuel pump and not the fuel line. I changed the o2 bank 1 on it thinking that was the problem because it had that as a code and still after I changed the part the car would turn off. it turns on and very thing just seems like it doesn't get enough fuel. thank you

Same thing has happened to my my mazda 3 2007, Trying to figure out whats wrong. The repair shop figured that non-return valve is damaged inside the fuel pump. It starts in the day time. and not starting in the morning.

Maybe you Mazda people can help me....I have the 2004 Mazda 3 1.6 and once the car heats up some, when I hit the acceleration to pass or whatever, the car hesitates a long time before accelerating. Could a vacuum leak be the problem?

Thanks Brian. I never thought to look at pulse width as a clue for what is going on. I need a scanner that can see that though, lol. While yes, fuel pressure would tell us all of what we thought we needed to know (prior to knowing about a wiring issue as well), some cars are very difficult to get fuel pressure.

Thanks for the video buddy. This has been the only video regarding a Mazda 3 fuel tank removal/repair. I am getting an emissions leak code, and a faulty purge control valve code. Ive replaced the purge control valve and its still there. Now, when i fill up my tank to it max, it overflows from within the wheel wall. I'm beginning to think that big emissions hose on the fuel tank may have a crack in it, or may not be seated well. Might as well replaced the fuel pump and filter while I'm at it, ay? Any suggestions?

Michael Sanchez, did you figure out your leak? We just took our 2004 mazda 3 to the dealer because we smelled gas outside the vehicle. they said we needed a new fuel pump seal ring and also a purge control valve to get rid of the code. It seems real strange that the seal that guy showed in the video could be leaking.

I have a 08 Mazda 6 with the same engine 2.3l. Lately, I'm experimenting some intermittent stall when I drive it for more than one hour. It also happens when I leave it run for a long time in a parking lot. (e.i >25mns) what do think is the problem mileage 186k

+Illinois is BROKE. You can identify who the plate is registered to and to what vehicle. Usually contains at least full name, address, state/county of registration, and insurance status. Of course an average joe can't get to it, but if they have a crooked cop buddy...

Could a bad fuel pump drain the battery over night ? First Changed the fuel line year ago, then starter about a month ago w/ throttle body sensor failed, now it was a relay fuse (FP) , and battery drains over night not even a year old ( Mazda 3I 2004 not sure engine type )

It can, but not likely. If it's consistent, pull the pump relay and see if it still drains the battery to narrow it down or eliminate it. Has the car been wrecked in the front? If so, check the wire harness between the exhaust down pipe and the body/firewall.

briansmobile1 it actually has been in about 6 different .. From previous owner (Sad really) .. They relay for the pump actually had to be replaced on friday because it went out and didnt turn car on but i. Left it plugged in on sunday and still didnt turn on had to jump start it

Hey Brian, my wife has a 2006 Mazda 3, and I'll be replacing the fuel pump tomorrow. I already checked under the back seat and noticed that the access panel isn't over the pump. There is only a single electrical connection in view and no way to see anything else. Will I be able to just unplug hat and then drop the tank to get the other connections/fuel lines? Use a 5/16" fuel line quick disconnect tool. You can buy them at any auto parts store. Insert the tool, push it forward, pull off the line.

hoppes9 But the additional air got me better gas mileage and probably paid for many parts other than jusy the MAF. I use a foam filter now by Weapon R. I can get double the air per my MAF over stock...reusable filter, clean MAF, amazing game mileage while driving fast.
