what a brilliant song! Only Colin knows why this was never included on 'Nonsuch' definitely should have been!

This is from a rehearsal in Andy's shed some time before they started to record Nonsuch. And it was recorded from July to October 1991. (Released April -92).

you're right this song is a gem. I take the lyrics to mean that his neighborhood has been gentrified and he doesn't relate to the new neighbors. For that matter, they aren't even interested in getting to know each other. Living in L.A., I can relate to that.

Even in a shed with no frills, amazing. Love them. I wonder what Andy was thinking about, he seems distracted.
@willharris37982 жыл бұрын
Andy was mostly only interested in Andy songs. Even on records (Wasp Star for one) it was just Colin and Dave recording Colin tracks.

Hi Quidditch910, the following is taken from chalkhills org. ¨Demo version. Recorded in the front bedroom, No. 2 Dolphin Cottages, Wanborough, in January 1985. Engineered by Colin Moulding. Released on 2 February 1987 as a B-side to the The Meeting Place 12" single in the U.K. Also released on Coat of Many Cupboards. Colin Moulding - All instruments and Vocals¨

One thing, Dave is playing the lower guitar parts (1st position). Colin is playing the higher parts (verse) at 9th and 7th frets -Same voicing he used with "Love On A Farmboy's Wages". The verse uses the same chord voicing but w/o muting. Both Dave and Colin are hitting the melody and some harmony. It's easy and fun to play. The song is in A, but the intro starts in E. Chorus -E, B. D, A, C ,G, B. Good stuff. The best are always the simple ones.

I don’t understand your point. Andy Partridge wrote and sang Love on a Farmboy’s Wages, not Colin Moulding.

If you look carefully you can see that there is two different sequences. AP with the guitar and then AP with the tambourine.

Colin's songs lay me out -never heard a bad one. Does anyone know the date and sessions this song was from?!! Why the hell did they keep this canned?!! -They look pretty young in the vid -Maybe from the mid-early 90s? -They still had to acomodate the LP format Perhaps it simply wouldn't fit? And why the hell does only iTunes have this -in only 128KBPS?!! It's the only 128KBPS iTunes I have ever purchased.

rehearsing for nonsuch eh? If this and "Didn't Hurt A Bit" were on it instead of Wardance and Smartest Monkeys, Colin would have owned that record.
@Pureevilhotsauce4 жыл бұрын
The Smartest Monkeys is ace. Totally right for it to have been included

Yes, but only on iTunes in the US.

Where ever did you get this?!! It's wonderful. Such a simple pop tune can be so good. Wonderful harmony, lyrics and clever complimenting chord structures. It sounds as if the record produced it's self! I have a high res version of the final studio version (not this video) and I will gladly email it to anyone who wants -GRATIS. -At least until Virgin makes it available. If or when it becomes available, I will buy it and and destroy my master, & I ask everyone else to do the same. Cool?

Ehhhh, I relate a lot more to the sentiment of "..Ordinary People" (feeling like you don't belong in your neighborhood, paranoia, your town changing right under your feet and making you alienated), then "War Dance" (a vague, sentiment about war and that...war is bad. duh.) Also "...ordinary people" is catchier, and War Dance never did much for me musically. As XTC say, the clarinet in it sounds like "a singing penis" -Jordan
@nightdriver17 жыл бұрын
what do you have against war dance?
@lokrume0417 жыл бұрын
No, it's the man himself, Andy Partridge.
@shortyktfc17 жыл бұрын
War Dance is an annoying song although I do love it. NonSuch never got much of a going over when the back catalogue was re-released. Shame because this track would have been loved by so many more if it was included on the disk.
