We've been testing out the ESAB Rebel 235 for the past few weeks and trying to see if we could "trick" the smart MIG feature. It amazingly surpassed all expectations and handled everything we threw at it.
In this episode, we are going to play around with the weld profile adjustment with .045 wire and see what happens.

Spray would be a great topic or even better metal core wire in spray and short circuit mode. I'm using Hobart Fabcor 86R metal core and really like it.

What kind of frustration? I've had mine a year and it runs great. Its fantastic for MIG and SMAW. My one complaint is no gas valve for TIG, I always forget to turn on the gas.

I noticed that the more humped up setting the voltage dropped down to 16 volts and the dished fillet it never dropped below 20 volts. Thanks again for the video.

And in case your wondering my grandpa was like you Bob, he spent many a years welding on hydro electric dams, so he was certified in every type including underwater. And He was a farmer, I don't think I need to say anymore on that. He knew ALOT more than my instructor and taught me what he knew. The instructor had maybe 15 year welding. By the time I took his class I had half as much as him. And he taught me nothing. He didn't always like me because I proved him wrong a lot. JUST A QUICK LITTLE STORY ABOUT MY BEGINNINGS. But again class didn't really prepare me for the real world of welding. Unless I would've been fabricating new projects with new material, but in the field, nothing.

thanks for the video! I'd like to see info, especially with the .045 mig, a video or info on vertical ot overhead. like how do you come up with general start settings(volts/ipm) for these other position, is there a common calculation to find one or the other setting?

Great video I only run .045 and glad the machine can handle the big spools. Once you get used to how fast you can run .045 and how easily it deals with bad fitups/gaps , hard to use .035

Hola.

When I was in welding school, we were all a bunch of country boys,so we were always allowed to bring in projects from home or real applications. Do you do that in your classes? If so, can you so some videos on real applications. That was my biggest frustration in class, because I had been doing "ideal condition" welding since I was 11 or 12, due to my grandpa. The real life applications is where you learn. If I didn't have him, God rest his soul, I wouldn't have had a clue what I was doing in the real world.

@codycarswell3580
@codycarswell3580 5 жыл бұрын
I'd have liked that too,I had a fabricator 252i from esab, I liked it , it had an auto arc feature on it but it was still manual controls so it wasn't synergic type of control, couldn't tell any difference between auto arc or manual but it ran great never a problem.but I only bought it cause for the money the 252 was only couple hundred more with better duty cycle and higher output at 300amps , but I bought it on the day sema show announced the 235 rebel was available, so I was chocked then next year the 285 rebel,so I sold my 252 and a new 9500w continuous generator to the place I bought em and a couple hundred bucks and got the esab rebel 285ic, love it

Good video Bob. Yes I would like to see something on spray transfer. Do you need a special machine todo it? I have a Powermig 210 MP can I pray transfer with it? To me, spray is just turn the power up and do it to it. I use to be a welder but I got sick for awhile and lost track of things. Just got back into it for a hobby. I just love ❤️ love welding.😳😳
@ironken1796

Richard Valcourt I don't think your machine would like spray. At 24v and 200a rated output (I looked up its specs)I believe that even with an Ar rich shielding gas mix, you would be right on the edge of a true spray. Factor in 25% duty cycle at that output and you would push that little machine and gun beyond its limits. Spray C10, 27v-510ipm, .035 on my Millermatic 252 works it pretty hard and gets my gun hotter than hell in short order.

I don't really think I would use spray, I believe it's more for production work. I'm an old timer and just welding for the fun of it. I just like to keep current with the new stuff. Last time I welded for a living plasma cutters had just gotten popular, they weighed hundreds of pounds, cost many thousands of dollars and were expensive to operate. I now own a Hypertherm Powermax 30 and I think I'm in heaven using it. Thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate it.👍😀

Bob, youdeman! Love your video tutorials. I'm in the market for an Esab multi and watching these tutorials have been invaluable for me. Would be interested to know if you personally would consider this and the slightly smaller 215 to be of an 'industrial' standard or just a very good light usage type of deal...? Keep up the great work. Jim (UK).

there is nothing in AWS D1.1 that says you need to clean mill scale prior to welding. AWS only makes issue with "coatings" of which hot dip galvanizing is not included nor considered being part of. coatings {i.e. PAINT) when consumed in the weld puddle can cause "under bead hydrogen cracking" per AWS. you can weld over galvanizing and mill scale and it not affect the final weld. mill scale is another form of rust, but a stable, harder form called magnetite. crank that machine up, loose the solid wire, load some .045 outer shield and 75/25 backer gas and let it eat. i can weld 1 1/2' schedule 40 pipe and 3/4' plate with out changing my settings. were you demonstrating the features of the machine for the non welding smoe, or how to weld and can that rig handle a welder(operator)??? i haven't welded in years. I'm an AWS CWI and id like to know its limitations before i purchase a welder for my personal shop at home. ill look further and end up with a lincoln. thanks

When do you North_Americans (...and I'm saying North_Americans explicitly 'coz Latin Americans know all this since decades...) learn how to use metric units? Every time some US jerk tells me about 3/16th, I have to pull out a calculator to figure that 3/16 is 4.76mm, which is practically 5mm rounded. 5mm is easy to visualize. 3/16 is not, just as little as 7/32 and much less 15/64. How can the same Nation that claims to be the greatest on earth keep proclaiming and practicing that same system of measurements that has been abolished by every single nation on the globe except yours? I call that mental inertia. YES: The US makes great weapon systems. YES: The US has a lot of military might in the world, and YES, they will loose that status to China within the next 15 years. Because of mental inertia (among other diseases).
