Gotta say the quality of this broadcast is incredible given it's almost 50 years old now. And how good is Brian Moore and Jimmy Hill's commentary, grew up with these guys in Australia. Big Dick Malone defending like his life depended on it 😂🤣..

With the tackle on Bremner in the box, now the commentators would say "That looks like a penalty" but Moore is straight in there with "No penalty!"

I was 9. Watching in Dublin. Never forget that day, it was blood and guts all the way. The image of Bob Stokoe running down to hug Jim Montgomery after the final whistle is burned on my memory. Brian Moore's great commentary added to the occasion.

My Grandad is from Galway and I watched the final with him. I was only 5yrs old but I can still remember the joy and the scenes. Ya see the lad who ran on the pitch at the end with the flag around him ? That was my uncle, my Grandad son.

What memories, Dave Watson like a rock, Bobby Kerr like a mad Duracell bunny, Ian Porterfield with the only goal of the match, and Jimmy Montgomery, with that epic double save, another thing that's over looked about this final, there were a lot of Scotsmen on the pitch that day

Totally disagree with the original comment about Jimmy's classic saves being "overlooked' I don't think they've ever been overlooked and people when talking about this match remember Ian's goal, Jimmy's saves and Bob Stokoe at the final whistle running arms out to Montgomery.

this 70s footy...absolutely shi**s all over todays limp wristed effort! .......having lived thru late 60s footy till present day..I can categorically say..... 65 -88 is perhaps the greatest era...... less money in it.... more pride passion and loyalty from fans and players alike, and hardly any over paid foreign players!!!!!! ....... the FA Cup final was THE game of the year........ never be anything like it ever again !

I can still remember BBC1 Scotland, who were showing the Old Firm final, saying during commentary something along the lines of "We don't want to spoil it, but if you think this final has everything, wait for the highlights from Wembley after this, where something extraordinary is happening! " That didn't give the game away much!

Sunderland was the first second division team to win the FA Cup since West Brom did in 1931, And what is forgotten is that they had to beat some of the cream to do it, Scores R3 Notts c 1-1 replay 2-0 ,R4 Reading 1-1 replay 1-3 ,R5 Man City2-2 replay 3-1 Q final Luton 2-0 , semi Arsenal 2-1 and the rest is History

Over a million supporters welcomed them back home on an open top bus. Think about that over 1 million supporters. We had 3 quarters of Wembley that day as well. I'm not lying or exaggerating look at the records if anything it was more than a million from Durham all the way to Roker Park it was unbelievable

Yes, he was at ITV from 1968 to just after this final, when he moved to the BBC to present Match of the Day. Jimmy went on to suggest 3 points for a win, rather than 2, and this was taken up in 1981 in England, but it was another 10 years before other countries did. Indeed, it wasn't 3 points for a win in the World Cup until the 1994 tournament.

@@Ruda-n4h I think you're probably on to something. Leeds had everything to lose. They were expected to hammer Sunderland but the pitch was a bit of a leveller and Revie's obsession with bad omens and the influence of fate probably spread negativity throughout the team. First Cup Final I saw on a colour telly. My lasting image is of that pillock Bob Stokoe running around on the pitch like a loon. Leeds were the ultimate nearly team in the 70's.

at the time the biggest FA Cup upset ever....bob stokoe done wonders...also tells a story of Revie wanting to pay off Stokoe in the 1960s when Stokoe in charge of Bury i believe to, shall we say roll over...to the tune of £300.......wasnt the first time Revie done that neither...even Sprake is kicked out of Leeds as a traitor for saying similiar...classy
