Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the Karplus Strong digital oscillator present on the Arturia MicroFreak.

Take some good Effekts, and this Little Synth is a real big Sound Monster. You Can produce real nice experimental timbres , with a digital Touch . I Love this Synth , behause he gives me Sounds, i can not produce with other Synthesizer .

Attack was still too strong. Regardless of your tweaking, the sound still maintained that plucking sound on attack. Your vids are freakin awesome! I just bought a Microfreak & you're my go to info source on this synth. Thx 4 ur help! I've got some "tweakin 2 do"! ;-)

The strong attack is a major point of the Karplus-Strong. 💪 He actually tamed the helloutta that attack too.

I love this synth, but they missed an opportunity to makes the screen represent the synths more graphically; the OP-1's version of this synth type is a good example.

Just realized: This is a digital synth with a variety of synthesis algorithms and four soft knobs to alter parameters and I have one of those already. Thanks for mentioning the OP-1 and snapping me out of that GASeous state...

@@almightyEsquilax Ha! Well, keep in mind that the Microfreak has some serious modulation capabilities not available on the OP-1. But I do adore the OP-1.

It's really cool that the Microfreak has this. I don't have one, but I tried doing Karplus-Strong on my Pro 3 for the first time a couple days ago, and it made some really nice organic tones very easily. Then I found this video while looking for other synths which can do it. The Microfreak implementation seems a little lackluster, but maybe that's just because this demo was kind of like an init patch. How much can it be tweaked to keep the tone evolving over time? For an example of what I have in mind, I uploaded a video yesterday showing a quick demo of my first Karplus-Strong patch. It also has a second example linked in a pinned comment, using it as more of an electric violin, which I think turned out nicer than the first demo. So I'm wondering if a Microfreak can make similar sounds.

good boid Those videos are probably coming... with all of the possibilities, they will be l o n g . . . 35 Matrix slots, 12 oscillators, 3 Filters, 6 LFO shapes... already more than 7K combinations/sounds, and then there is... 🤪

I continue to be surprised at how deep this goes. For example, I thought to myself: I want a huge fat messy sound, so during unison, can I modulate the preset's unison spread by the LFO; that is, can I assign the unison spread amount to the matrix?? Yes, yes, you can. Little Easter eggs like this are great. (Unfortunately - and I just tried - you can't do truly wild things like change the Preset|Scale with the LFO, perhaps in an update?)

I’m interested in the parallels of sound noise and visual. You can add patterns in fractal noise to create all sorts of animated visual textures, it’s the basis of all things audio visual. Once you harness the powers of noise you can create an entire universe. I am being pretentious and annoying thank you.
