In this video Doctor Andrea Furlan explains what is De Quervain Tenosynovitis. This is tendinitis that affects the wrist in people who perform repetitive movements of the hand, like hammering, lifting and pipetting. It is also called Mommy's thumb because it is common in mothers who have a newborn or are nursing.
Dr. Furlan will explain how to do a Finkelstein test to diagnose this tendinitis. She will show strategies to improve the symptoms like activity modification, topical anti-inflammatories, NSAIDs, ice, and a thumb spica splint. She will also explain when it is indicated to apply injections of steroids or to send a referral to a surgeon, orthopedic or plastic surgery.
