How did you install the new plug?

My new alternator came with a new plug and wiring the info , the old plugs you just unplug and don’t need it I wrapped electrical tape around it and tucked it …the battery light will come on but car will run fine, doin that bypasses the vehicles regulated charger so that it will run above 14v at all times

did you have to switch from the 200 amp fuse to higher alternator charger cable fuse? and what bypass exactly is that called for the 14 volt to 12

Are you referring to the fuse I put on the 1/0 gauge wire in between my alternator and battery ? And the bypass I refer to in the video is a regulated voltage control bypass (RVC), when Mike singer built my alternator I had him include a plug that allows me to charge above 14V at all times, normally on these impalas the RVC will cut the charging voltage down to around 12 at times but to bypass that with my new alternator I just unplugged the stock plug form the alternator set aside as I don’t use it now and plugged in my new one that Mike made for me and wired it up as per his instructions, the battery light stays on now because of that but I am able to charge about 14 volts at all times now

Interested in your changing voltage since i have a 08 with the 3.5

@@kevincobb5182 charging voltage is around 14-14.5V with the new alternator and RVC bypass, should be same setup on your 08 3.5

Did you really cut your oem battery terminals. Have you had any issues (electrical/performance)?

Yes I cut them no issues that was years ago it’s been fine, electrical has been perfect

@bullettooth7115 I appreciate that info. I just cut mine. Did you change your serp belt. Autozone just warned me that a new one "possibly" may slip off

@@yeahright_ard I’m running stock belt, with my new alternator the stock belt is fine, I’ve heard of some high output alternators requiring a slightly smaller belt to prevent slipping

I have another question since you chose the 320 alternator. Do you have idle issues? I heard bigger isnt always better but i i wouldn't mind having that 320 do you see 12v at stoplights? My car at idle is about 750 i have the 2007 3.5

@@mallorycainjr.1921 I do not have idle issues and with this alternator set up I am bypassing the regulated voltage control system so it charges at 12-14v all the time

what size serpentine belt did you have to get?

I am still using the stock belt no issues, the 3.9L can stay with stock belt but other engines may need a slightly smaller belt according to Mike Singer

@@bullettooth71117 that's a great install! Nice high output alternator! Like the purple color on it! I have a green 390a Singer alternator, I'm also using stock length belt gates brand.

So question? Are there any prebuilt high power alternators for this model or do we have to do custom?

Mechman sells prebuilt ones for the 3.9L, it’s about $420 for a 240amp

@@ChillinKillinUB not that I know of, for prebuilt 240 amp Mechman is highest I’ve seen, you’ll have to order one custom built if you want higher out put like 300-400 amp, probably have to wait a month or so for it after you order but definitely worth it if you trying to push them kinda watts

@@larrysledgejr1423 I’d say mileage stayed the same, only performance I noticed would be with the electrical, amps and subs were able to get all the power they needed
