The Lever empire is big, looking at the hall and other buildings. The Lever Bridge is of a most unusual construction that I've never seen before. Let's hope that there has been some restoration of many of the garden items. Rivington Pike and the Pigeon Tower are amazing structures, too. With it being so high in elevation, I did once see Winter Hill from the heights above Colwyn Bay on an extremely clear day. Thank you for this most excellent video, Patrick.

I found this area after researching one I had done before this, so it was a really nice surprise to have discovered it. Rivington Pike and Pigeon Tower was wonderful to see. I recall not enjoying the walk across Rivington Moor to Winter Hill as the bogs were treacherous, but I saw a man walking his dog across this so I probably would have turned back had I not seen him. Thanks again Ffranc for taking the time to watch 👍

Have done no walking at all in Lancashire, here in Yorkshire we tend not to cross the border unless it's absolutely necessary. Some interesting places along the walk though,I liked the Lever Bridge and the Pigeon tower, the paths along the first part through the gardens were organised and well maintained,I hope the heritage trust get their funds for the work and it encourages people to get out walking, but I would have hated the boggy part, always avoid those areas if I can in the Dark Peak,I didn't used to,I used to go off path for miles in rough boggy terrain looking for WW2 plane wrecks and found about twelve, but some of the terrain to walk on was dreadful and even dangerous with the hidden deep peat groughs that were like trenches and sometimes very deep,I fell into one once and learned my lesson and I like my paths now. Thanks for another great film Patrick. Take care. Pete.

When I was doing my online research for my Holcombe Hill and Peel Tower walk, I came across Rivington Pike tower as well as the tower in the next walk, so I decided to do walks to these too. I would have turned back on Rivington Moor as I found it quite scary, but I had seen a bloke walking his dog across there, who clearly knew where he was going, so that's the only reason I decided to carry on, but it wasn't pleasant I have to say. A lovely walk aside from that though. I know of those peat groughs you mentioned, went onto Kinder Scout once and that was not great like you have said. Anyway thanks Pete for giving this a watch :)

Great video. You didn't mention that lord leverhulme built the pigeon tower for his wife, she used the top floor as a sewing room and was also a lover of birds.

I’ve led a number of Wigan and District rambler walks around here over the past few years. Again your video captures it all so wonderfully. Paul Beachcroft

Great film and all the more interesting to me since I live not far away and know the area well. You might want to give nearby Withnell Moor and Great Hill with the many abandoned farmhouses upon it a try one day.

Great film of an area that l visit often. The western route across the moor to Winter Hill must be the soggiest in Lancashire so good on you for not turning back. Might I tempt you to try the other side of the moors over Anglezarke moor and up to Great Hill? Keep up the wonderful videos 👍

Thanks for your kind comments! My camera tripod came in very handy as I crossed Rivington Moor! I probably would have turned back, but a man walking his dog overtook me and made it to the transmitting station on Winter Hill, so I knew the route was possible. I've done a couple of other films on the West Pennine Moors, and Anglezarke Moor and Great Hill are on the back burner as a possible future walk. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Patrick :-)

Rivington is a particular favorite place foor us Patrick , I wonder on your walk wether you took in The chinese gardens or japanese gardens , on our last visit there we sat by the lake , where the large waterfalls were , Also did you visit the replica of Liverpool castle , its down by the reservoir , at the lower end or goin to wards Horwich or bolton diirection , its the strangest place it looks like the remains of a castle when in fact it was where they stopped building after Lord Leverhulme died , it was only being built in the early part of the last century , they just down tools and left it mid build , thank you once again , really enjoyed these films set around our neck of the woods ...Frank and Lee ...

I didn't go to any of these places Frank. Once I finished my day of filming I would have slowly made my journey home back from Rivington Hall Barn where I had parked all day whilst I did the walk. These places I can always visit again and enjoy a more leisurely day out by leaving the camera at home. The only downside with when I'm filming a walk is that it's always a long day, and that's on top of making the couple of hours or so drive to and from the start of the walk, so I'm always pretty whacked by the end of it. It would be nice to visit the places you've mentioned and one day I will, so I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

fantastic....im a local from chorley and used to swim and play in rivington and hike through the bogs on winter hill in wellies....used to swim in the reservoirs and we used to call the other place locally ...THE CHINESE GARDENS or THE CHINESE WATERS....BUT now everyone is calling them the japanese gardens or italian gardens...it used to be like something out of a childrens mystery book, tons of rhododendron and overgrown.. now it is very tidy... it actually looks a bit better, and when i go up there now..there are always tons of people, whereas it used to be real quiet except at easter, when we used to scamper up the hill to the pike and go on a bouncy ball at easter.
