this teacher really covered this better in 20 minutes than my lecturer did in 2 hours...

17:26 Why S4 is NOT BCNF?? SSN, HScode -> sName, address, GPA // one functional FD arent you?
@lucianoinso5 жыл бұрын
Neither (SSN -> sName, address, GPA) nor (HSCode-> HsName, HsCity) by themselves have a key on their left side for S4 (SSN, Sname, addr, HScode, GPA), S4 requires to have SSN and HSCode on the left side of the SAME functional dependency, that means both FDs are violating functional dependencies.

Please tag your videos, so that people who are not taking the whole course itself could easily find this information. Other than that- great work!

Shouldn't SSN determine HScode?

I thought the same, it surprised me that the algorithm could spit out the correct schemas without that functional dependency present.

Anyone already find the answer of this? Update: After watching next video, I realize that S6 satisfies BCNF because it has no functional dependency. So, it satisfies BCNF since the definition is "for each A --> B, A is a key", meanwhile we have no functional dependency here.
