I think in between then there was a DNA test done (which Ned doctored) somewhere in 2003.

Oh because it was revealed that Ned was the father or so everyone thought. Ned tampered with the DNA results and that secret only came out during the hotel fire because Alexis thought she was going to die. Alexis lies have cost her sister her life.
