07 BMW 328i key fob battery replacement

Thank you, Alfredo, for your helpful video. My ‘07 535 fob battery died last week when I was out with a friend at night, and luckily I got one last unlock out of it so I could drive home. My 2nd fob is mostly brand new, so I’m using it now. I remembered being told by the dealer that you’d have to buy a new $$$$ fob when the battery died, but since I’m a bit mechanically minded and have replaced many iPhone screens, batteries, even the touch button for myself, family & friends, I figured somebody on youtube has figured out how to fix these older-model fobs. And it’s you! I think I’ll try a box cutter first, with a fresh blade, for an easier grip. I even have a soldering gun, so will drop a small glob of solder on the connection. Thanks so much for your generosity & time doing this video!

Thank you so much for this!! BMW dealership is now asking for $500-600 for a full key replacement, a little over $400 for just the fob box and battery. I have a soldering iron so I’m going to give this a shot before committing to going to the dealership. I’m sorry if you’ve answered this before but do you need a soldering iron to remove the original cell battery?

Hello Stephanie, most of the time the fob is rechargeable when you driving your vehicle. But if the battery is to old it May be time to replace it.

Ichanged the shell not the battery on my 07 328i.and after that it didn't work didn't unlock or lock . do you know what it could be?

The only thing I can think is you damaged the circuit or Assemble it wrong, Was it working before you change the shell?

Yes it was working fine. It still let's me start the car just doesn't unlock. I ordered a battery hopefully its that.

I replaced the battery and it starts the engine when pushed in but the buttons don't work on the key fob - any ideas ? does it need re-programming ?

No need re-programming, Chances are it was no good Assembly it back together. Removed the fob case and try again, if still not working chances are circuit are broken and you will need a new fob.(make sure battery is well connected)

Same here on my spare key. New battery in and gives off a strong signal, and starts the car but buttons do not lock / unlock the car. Did you fix it in the end?

Key fob battery replacement is only to open/closing doors, even with out battery your key fob should be able to startup your vehicle after you insert it in the slot.

@Sleepy Post Hello Sleepy, just cut the two terminal wire that are welded on the battery, that’s how to removed the battery out of the circuit board. I try to do my best when I published a video but I’m not a professional taking videos sorry I just try to help .

Indo Perfect Hello, I recommend to use clippers to remove the battery. I also recommend soldering the new battery in place you don’t have to but the battery will perform better.

Indo Perfect you don’t have to solder straight to the battery, please see the link of the battery I recommend to get, in that way you don’t solder straight to the battery. Please let me know any further question you may have :)

So yeah, I have the same fob for my 2007 335i, and these contain rechargeable batteries that charge up when in the ignition. My battery light came on, but since they aren't made to be serviced I'm told I just need to drive longer trips to recharge it. What made you replace yours?

slay2k sorry I couldn’t recorded that step, but you can do it 2 different ways one is the way you mentioned and a second way just cut it off with a clipper close to the battery. Before soldering new battery make sure it works opening and closing the door locks vehicle

I don't believe it is true you have to break the casing to change the battery of a FOB for a 2007 328i. I have found another video that shows the use of a small screw driver on the end of the fob (small slot). I did this and it came right apart. I replaced the battery and snapped back together. I do not have the "smart key" fob which comes apart even easier.

Hello Lisa, Believe or not it is true you have to open the whole case just to replace the battery, This model Fob does not have a small window to pop up and replace the battery, it is really complicated to replace the battery. Please check for the fob on the video and you will find out It does no have a small window or little screws to remove in order to replace the battery. Cheers

Not sure what's Wrong with your vehicle, but what I'm sure is there is nothing to do with your key fob. You may have a electrical problem.

Do not do this!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the way to change the battery. Find another video that shows you the right way. There is a door that just pops off. If you follow these instructions you might as well use a hammer.

Sorry to disappoint you Robert, but in this specific model fob there is no battery DOOR you can pop off. On New fobs there is a battery doors you can pop off, please watch the whole video . Cheers
