Great tutorial! Just ordered two new batteries with the brackets. Since no one complained, I am just going to say it: BMW must have decided to make it as difficult as possible to change these batteries so that the dealerships can profit from consumers. It is not right.

Other car is a Prius. Like night and day. Fixing things on a Prius are simple. There is nothing simple on a BMW. The air filter is hours of labor. TPMS sensors are crap. Run flat tires have to be adjusted every 2 weeks. When I found out there's no dip stick I was appalled. Another sensor that can fail vs. A Dip Stick! Horrible design.

I'm in the car mechanical trade, but I'm not a huge fan of solder work. Elbeit I plucked up the courage watching this video to do my own key battery.. (bearing in mind I only hane one key) pleasantly surprised how easy I found this. I'd be confident to do this on a friend's key now if ever needed. Thanks for the video it gave me the courage to have a go seeing how you calmly explain it!

Thank you, just what I was looking for. I have an option 2.. and I bought the Duracell Lithium Coin CR2032 before I saw your video. It says it is a Lithium, but I am confused because of the code and the voltage is 3V and not the 3.6V like in your case, so im not sure it is a rechargeable battery. What do you think, will it work?

Hi, I need your help! So I have a E60, 2006 bmw 525i. The key fob won’t open or close the doors. It is the original remote fob and it starts the car. The door close/unlock switch inside the car functions properly, but the key fob won’t open or close the doors but when I lock the door with the key blade it locks all the doors and arms the alarm. I changed the original battery, put In a new one believing that was the issue, but it didn’t do nothing still. I used a rke/rf frequency signal detector like yours but it’s an older Autel MaxiTPMS ts401 but it gets signals from other key fobs no problem, to check if it was sending out a signal and realized it is not sending out the signal when I press the buttons. I Decided to check the original battery I changed out and realized that it had 1.293v which I thought it would’ve been dead completely cause that car didn’t move in a few years. The new battery I soldered in was 3.166v and it still does not send out a signal. What should I do next?

Does the battery have to have the same curved metal connectors like the original.? Are those curved parts making contact. Because when you search you see these batteries with regular connectors that are not curved

@johncoto8803 жыл бұрын
Gracias. Pero yo creía que esta batería se autocargaba cuando estaba conectada al automóvil. Es decir, mientras este conectada al automóvil, teóricamente se va recargando. Parece que no es así, muy extraño.

Do they sell the case shell for the non-comfort version (battery soldered on) on ebay? If I have to cut out the case (and most likely destroy it), I will want to use a new case that allows easy access next time. I understand once it is cut, it is no longer water proof (as I don't trust any good amount of crazy glue would).
@weschilders3 жыл бұрын
You can buy snap together cases to replace the one you cut open. Just make sure to get the right version: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084WSN9C9?pf_rd_r=A00DQ3KRZTDG7BY9TKZE&pf_rd_p=8fe9b1d0-f378-4356-8bb8-cada7525eadd&pd_rd_r=3ed2b1e4-f834-4484-8d64-637be7d96022&pd_rd_w=NiCap&pd_rd_wg=AzjIH&ref_=pd_gw_unk&th=1

Anybody know if you have the type with no back plate that requires soldering (i.e., the rechargeable one), and you were to order a replacement key from the BMW dealership, then can you ask for the non-rechargeable one with the simple 2032 battery? Sometimes simpler is better, no?

I believe "sodder" is a mispronunciation which has developed from the original "solder", especially in the U.S. "Solder" is correctly pronounced with its "L" intact.

The FOBs with the battery doors are for Comfort Access equipped vehicles as they are always active for proximity access and keyless engine start thus requiring periodic battery replacement.
