I didn't have to be this way. There were so many alternatives to defeating the Radiance that would've spared the Dreamers and saved Hallownest. But the Pale King's cowardice knows no bounds, and he chose to simply ignore her and seal her away in a faulty prison because he was too scared to fight her directly. "No cost too great". Not for his kingdom, of course, but for himself. For the power he had that he could not bear to let go of. His Queen, his children, his friends, his loyal Knights, all just pawns to his little game. Unfortunately for him, the Void doesn't care for it, and I say good riddance. He deserved his fate.

When I first played through this part of the game, I had a similar reaction to the scene as many of the people in the comment section. Oh, I guess they can't fight back... damn this is kinda messed up. The music is key to this, but after asking several of my friends when they played for themselves, I found that it didn't have the same effect on everyone. I found that your either confused, don't care, or it's one of the most traumatic parts of the game after HK stabbed themself.

Honestly I was pretty mindless and emotionless during the game except for the first time I fought the hollow knight. But I couldn't help but stop for a second and listen to the score when I first dreamnailed Monomon. When I met my first Dreamer (Monomon), she just floated there in the Dream realm, not doing anything. I was quite surprised since I was expecting a boss fight, but it didn’t happen. I decided to Dream Nail her to listen to her final words. Then I attacked her, twice, but she didn’t retaliate. So I tried to run off the edge to see what happens. I then came back to the real world where Quirrel was sitting, and he told me along the lines of, “Why hesitate? You’ve already come this far. It has to be done.” Then this means I have no other choice. So I went back and killed the Teacher. Slowly (about 1 strike per second). Just to let that sink in. I did the same for the remaining Dreamers. Listen to their final thoughts, and strike them slowly, all the while this music plays. I also didn’t expect I have to absorb them as I finished them off.
@agentmiso64462 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing, monomon was my first dreamer as well and I basically had the same experience as you. What is this? This song, why does it sound wrong? This is my goal, why do I feel guilt? Why do they just stand there? Why is there no boss fight? Why are they taking it? Why are they just standing there, hopeless and helpless? Why do they scream so much while making not making a sound? Why is this so difficult for me? Are they innocent? Are they the hero? Are they misunderstood? Am I misunderstood? Am I the villain? Am I really do the right thing? ... Should I really absorb it and continue my quest? ... Why am I doing this? ... Fret not, dear Kale. You did what you had to. Were you not to free them from their shackles bound by the limbo of the Dream Realm, it is there they would have stayed, likely for eternity. The Infection was spreading, and their purpose as Dreamers eroded more and more as a result. There was nothing else that could have been done, lest Hallownest turn into a slurry of orange, sweet-scented torture for all of bugkind. You saw the Crossroads, did you not, Kale? She had to be defeated. You were at no fault. You did no wrong. You did what had to be done. You did what was right and good.

*You are not a pure enough vessel for this job...* You have to do this. You must do this. There is no cost too great.
@nolleyramdeer51222 жыл бұрын
@Hwalse What you said about the severity of the infection and the ever diminishing role of the dreamers is true, but it feels wrong to kill innocent creatures {guardians, who have voluntarily dedicated their lives to contain the vessel within its chambers} just for the sake of the cause. One of the dreamers was someone's mother, who never saw her child grow or even held her in her hands. Take it from Hornet's perspective - you see your mother in an everlasting dream state, and you most likely wish to see her wake up just to have your moments with her. Then suddenly you realise that she must be slain for the greater good, and you know that she will never open her eyes and present you with a warm, motherly smile. When I first heard the dreamers' theme and had to fight them while they didn't struck back, I felt wrong. Killing them while the sun was rising {the sunrise being associated normally with positive emotions and change} felt tragic. And the worst part about it is that they knew that it had to be done. They didn't resist because killing the Knight would have forsaken the lives of other civilians. Honestly, huge props to the composer of this music theme and to the writer(s). The idea of the sacrifice was brilliantly presented in the game and managed to bring up the feeling of sadness and regret when I killed the dreamers.
@JaidaMongol2 жыл бұрын
When Quireel said that Monomon knew what knight was there for, and she seemed to welcome it, and then I saw her looking at the knight in the dream world, with this music in the background, it was as if I could hear her voice saying that she acknowledges my actions, I stood there for a brief moment looking back at her, before finishing her.

Has anyone else ever tried completing the game strictly through the Godmaster endings? As in, stopping your trek to Monomon and Lurien once you beat the Watcher Knights and Uumuu once those two bosses were ready in the Pantheons? Because apparently you don't actually have to kill the Dreamers to unlock the pantheons, you just have to beat up their guard bosses and leave them from there. It doesn't affect the immediate ending cutscene after p5, but it might affect the greater scale of the game itself if there were some kind of post-game.

I'm not very well studied on music theory but this makes me want to learn. It perfectly creates this mysterious, building tension. Like a grand, beautiful mystery is unfolding before you and getting bigger. You don't know quite what to make of it, but you're in awe of it nonetheless. There's little bits of sadness and fear mixed in with the awe and you aren't quite sure why you feel them. It stuck with me the first time playing the game, finding these guys and not fully understanding what they were or why I had to kill them.

This part of this game scares me rather that making me curious. Its a feeling that what you are seeing is magnificent but also highly private, like you shouldnt suppose to see that. After knowing about radiance and since this music takes place in dream realm, there is a feeling that radience's existence is lurking in the background. A cruel god is watching my every move. WHY. THEY DID NOTHING
@giantturtlecat29595 жыл бұрын
Ultrite SansTube What do you mean? They sacrificed themselves in order to “seal” the Hollow Knight in the Black Egg Temple The Hollow Knight had the Radiance in him The Radiance eventually broke out, but that’s why we’re here Because we are meant to either take his place, or break the cycle

I think they meant that the dreamers did nothing while you were actually killing them to stop you :]

@@giantturtlecat2959 I think they either meant they did nothing wrong, or they did nothing to defend themselves when the Knight kills them in the Dream Realm

They do not deserve this, but there is no other way. As long as the seals exists they cannot wake, and they only way to break the seals is to wake them, or... Yeah.
