07 Impala ignition not turning off/key stuck

Are you facing a situation where your key is stuck in the ignition and you can't turn the ignition to off. In this video, I present to you my temporary solution to getting your key out of the ignition or bypassing it so you can still drive around and worry about fixing it later. Initially I was in a hurry and I forcefully pulled my key out. I wouldn't recommend that method. In the video, I haven't mentioned the case where your key is stuck, in which case you won't be able to pull the upper cover off. In that situation, you can get the lower cover off which is stuck to the wheel with one star screw. Once the screw is open, you can pull on the cover to pop it off. Next you can squeeze your finger through to the solenoid, pressing the button shown in the video and take your key out. If anyone has any further questions, I will be glad to answer them in the comments.

On a night when I got caught off guard, this video help me out big time. I ad just got home. About to leave me car and the key just would not turn to get out of the ignition ' I try for 45 minutes and still could not get it out. At that point I was ready to just leave the keys in place. But the problem was. The radio / lights was still on . So whenever am ready in the morning for work ' the battery would be dead, so I ask KZbin for help. And their it was' your video. Hey I got a 02 impala , bought a new plastic thing the switch goes into but still stays on at night and drains my battery every time I get out of the car. Found a button on it, hope it's the right one. Any advice?

if you dont have the money for the part you could also short the two wires running to the solenoid or open the circuit depending if its normally open or normally closed. (if you are having problems taping it shut.)

Great video, I just had this issue. It was intermittent and today it eventually got stuck permanently. I popped the column cover off and pressed the button and my key can turn the ignition off now. Now I just need a jump to recharge the battery. Did you ever find out if replacing that solenoid fixed it permanently or is it something else causing the solenoid to not work? Thanks.

Glad to hear my video helped you with your problem. The vehicle actually got totaled after a crash so I never got a chance to further dig into it. Thinking back, if I was to diagnose it, I would change that solenoid first and then if that didn't work, the next step would be to dig into the wiring.

I have a 2007 Chevy Impala with a V6 and I can't get the key to turn on or off is stuck it won't come out on turn on won't turn off I'm not sure that the car is completely in park it looks like it could go a little bit farther what do I do

Thank you for your video. My RAP fuse keeps blowing, almost daily. The Chevy dealer changed the shifter assembly which includes (apparently) the shifter solenoid (and they replaced the RAP fuse, which is supposed to be 10A, with a 30A!). I replaced that 30A with a 10A and the fuse keeps blowing, leaving the key in the ignition (and me going through my collection of 10A fuses rather quickly). What else could be the problem, the ignition solenoid? How do I solve this problem, as the Chevy dealer seems to be completely inadequate and unable to do so.

I have an 02 impala which drains battery every nite too. If I hold it to the left and put a lot of pressure on the switch, it stays off. I found that if I press my e brake it will light up letting me know the switch is stuck on. Sometimes it comes back on when I get out and shut the door and drains it anyway. Will the button taping work for an 02?

i don't know if you can read this but my chevy impala dash show it is in neutral and the shift won't shift to speeds and when i get to doe it the light in the dash show neutral do you know what is going on in this impala pls

It seems like the transmission gear wire is stuck somewhere. You might want to try opening the gear shifting panel and check the wire.
