Heres what I know about gardening - we change our minds often. Sometimes because we don’ t like it, we’ve made an error, things are in the wrong spot - many things. So i wouldn’t rush in with concrete beds as those would be a bitch to relocate/remove.
@brianboot86235 ай бұрын
For sure, I’ve changed my layout once but my concrete raised beds are modular. There 3’ and 2’ foot long and 8” high and can be stacked. Mine are 2 high and 12’ foot long by 2’ and 3’ wide. There’s a guy in Canada that sells the forms, he shipped them to me here in the US. There cheap to make and you can recoup the cost of the forms by selling them to your neighbors 😊
@Villa_Oliva5 ай бұрын
true, but I was planning to approach it as Brian was mentioning. Small and modular. But good suggestion, thanks! Also, this is going to be work for next year, so I will have had time to change my mind a few times :)

As you build more raised beds and form your garden, you can use those raised beds to compost all of the debris you’re clearing. Then it will feed your garden too. It gives you a place to put the compost while you figure out where you will have a final compost place.

loving the mix contents. lovely to see your dad back. you make an awesome duo. hope he's feeling better after to motorcycle accident. when you burn any wood etc, save the pot ash and sprinkle it into your soil, its good for vegetation of any kind. love your design, its been well thought out. the transformation is looking fantastic. did you know get garden sieves to help separate the soi m the gravel, time consuming work, but worth it x the wood from the trees you could strip off the branches and use them as a temprory marker for your beds and paths until you get the posts that you really want. makes use of something thats taking up space until you can get rid of it. sorry im a pest, also have you thought of getting some solar powered outside lights that you can either again use the cut down tree posts or use any other posts to fasten them too. will make life so much easier for you will working in the dark, i would say 4-5 would probably be enough to light it up for you to work in and you can always move them around depending where you are working. can't wait for the next update. thank you for making all of us part fabulous journey renovating the villa and doing the garden which will look stunning if your design is anything to go on. good luck

Which way is north and south and which side is close to the road? The trees should go on the south side or along the line of the property to block sight and sound of the road. You will be keeping the fruit trees pruned short enough to harvest so no worries the garden won’t get enough sun. They will need to be 12-25 feet apart depending on the variety and those needing pollination next to their mate. You will also need to rotates crop areas. You cannot plant the same crop in the same bed year after year because it uses up all of the nutrients in the soil. Along with designing the planting you also need to plan the irrigation. Drip lines best and ideally on timers. There are very good irrigation timers run off batteries now. As soon as you get the driveway and parking set and the front gate fixed for access, consider planting cypress every 6-8 feet along the driveway to shield sight and sound of the roadway. The first thing I would have done is the gate, driveway and parking so I wouldn’t be carrying everything up that hill.

50 cm isn’t wide enough to work. You will have carts and tools for, maintenance and harvesting. If you want to maximize harvest and work efficiently, 60-80 cm paths and beds 1.25 meters wide by 2.5 meters long for fruits and vegetables. For flowers 50-60 cm beds stretching as long as you like around the garden and lining the large permanent path. That large permanent path should be at least a meter wide to walk comfortably, 1.25 meters if you want to allow handicapped access for walkers and wheelchairs.
@Villa_Oliva5 ай бұрын
I agree, it's not that wide. the snake path is for the wheelbarrow and stuff, and the other paths are just to get to the vegetables. but you're right, ideally they'd be wider
@carolineholland41785 ай бұрын
@@Villa_Oliva I love the snake design. The paths do need to be a bit wider though, and the beds would be a lot more productive if they are wider, you need to be able to reach into the middle of the bed from either side so consider the length of your arms and how far you can reach into the middle comfortably. This would be a future proof ergonomic approach. I highly recommend using the gravel elsewhere, such as on the driveway. Wood chip would be a much better option to use on the paths. As it breaks down it will nourish the surrounding soil, it will compost down and then you can add that to the beds either side and top up the paths with fresh wood chip.This would be a much more organic and sustainable approach. It also allows you the flexibility to change your mind in future without having to remove a load of gravel again. You have piles of wood, branches in piles, I would hire a wood chipper of buy one.Trust me, I'm a well seasoned grower of vegetables, fruit, and flowers.

The blue paths are access paths to get to the vegetables etc while the snake path is a through path, big difference !

Instead of using concrete for the raised beds, have you considered using the bricks you saved after demolishing the wall on the roof patio? I think it would look nicer…Just a thought. I’m enjoying watching how your garden evolves. Glad your dad is there to help.
@Villa_Oliva5 ай бұрын
I have thought about that, but I do not have enough bricks. especially not since I want to use a lot of them on the roof. so that's why I'm opting for these personalised concrete panels. Good suggestion though. If I had a lot of money, I would probably go that way as well, or maybe wood. Glad to hear that, thanks!

glad to hear it! I can imagine, I think I haven't explained properly in the videos. Basically, we tried once and that didn't work since the van didn't have enough friction.
