One of Staten Island (NY)'s best-kept secrets is coming to the Netherlands! The Budos Band, yet another phenomenal act from the renowned New York-based Daptone label (home to artists like Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings), will be performing their first and only concert in the Netherlands on April 21st at The Beatclub in Bibelot.
The Budos BandShort, powerful compositions-no 20-minute Fela Kuti-style jams here, but a fusion of '60s and '70s blaxploitation, Ethiopian jazz, and raw, old-school super badass funk that rarely exceeds the 4-minute mark. Their latest explosive album, released last year, is their second full-length record featuring 10 electrifying instrumental tracks, recorded live with vintage equipment at the Daptone studio. Back in 2005, The Budos Band delivered their first full-fledged album, taking listeners on a journey through funk, Afrobeat, and soul influences.
The members of The Budos Band first met in high school, playing together in a jazz band. However, their shared passion for raw, pure, and unpolished soul music soon took over, leading them to leave jazz behind. They discovered bands like Antibalas, Sugarman Three, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and it wasn't long before they became part of the Daptone Soul Revue themselves.
Now, in the spring of 2008, armed with drums, bass, guitar, organs, trumpets, saxophones, and every percussion instrument imaginable, The Budos Band is making their European debut. Get ready to be mesmerized by their high-energy, pounding, and steaming Afro-Latin-funk grooves. The place to be? The Beatclub on Monday, April 21st! After welcoming acts like Lee Fields, Sugarman Three, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and The Poets of Rhythm, it’s now The Budos Band’s turn to set Dordrecht on fire.
This concert is organized by Beatcollective.nl in collaboration with pop venue Bibelot. The night will also feature musical support from the AIFF DJs.

Eén van de best bewaarde geheimen van Staten Island (NY) komt naar Nederland. The Budos Band, wederom een weergaloze band van het New York afkomstige Daptone label (bekend van o.a. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings), geeft op 21 april het eerste en voorlopig enige concert in Nederland bij The Beatclub in Bibelot.

Korte krachtige composities, geen 20 minuten durende fela achtige tracks dus maar een mix van ’60s en ’70 blaxploitation, Ethiopische jazz en eenvoudige oude superbadassfunk die de 4-minuten grens zelden overschrijdt: je vindt het op de knaller van een plaat die The Budos Band vorige jaar uitbracht! Het is hun tweede langspeler met 10 opwindende instrumentale tracks die met veel vintage apparatuur en instrumentarium live zijn opgenomen in de Daptone studio. In 2005 trakteerde The Budos Band de luisteraar al op een eerste volwaardig album met een ontdekkingsreis met funk, afro-beat en soul muziek als belangrijkste invloeden.
De leden van The Budos Band leerden elkaar kennen op high school waar ze samen in een jazzbandje zaten. Al snel ontstond echter een gezamenlijke liefde voor rauwe, pure en ongepolijste soul muziek en werd de jazz vaarwel gezegd. Ze ontdekten bands als Antibalas, Sugarman Three en Sharon Jones & The Dapkings en het duurde niet lang of ze maakten zelf uit van de Daptone Soul Revue.
Nu in het voorjaar van 2008 komen ze, bewapend met drums, bass, gitaar, orgels, trompetten, saxofoons en alle soorten trommels die je maar kunt verzinnen, voor het eerst naar Europa om ons met hun energiek, stampende en stoomende afro-latin-funk grooves te betoveren. The Beatclub is dus the place to be op maandag 21 april a.s. Na eerder Lee Fiels, Sugarman Three, Sharon Jones & The Dapkings en The Poets of Rhythm te hebben mogen ontvangen is het nu de beurt aan The Budos Band om Dordrecht te laten swingen.
Het concert wordt georganiseerd door Beatcollective.nl in samenwerking met poppodium Bibelot. De avond zal verder muzikaal omlijst worden door de deejays van AIFF.
