In this video we explore the power factor, which is expressed as the cosine of the phase angle between current and voltage in an electrical system. It signifies the efficiency of power conversion from electrical to useful work output. We look at the example case of a loudspeaker, a power factor of 1 indicates optimal conversion of electrical power into sound, with current and voltage in phase, while a lower power factor suggests that some power is reactive, circulating within the system without contributing to sound production, hence decreasing operational efficiency.
