Bread were one of first super groups I recall. Everyone put around David Gates. And what a band. My favourite has to be Aubrey and guitar man. Awsome band. Play them all the time So heart warming and harmonic. Just beautiful.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I was 14 in 1972 and I ate up David Gate’s bittersweet ballads. I also loved rock n roll, drank and smoked too much, and was not uncool. Now, I am sending this song to my 22-year-old daughter, who has the same taste, and will send others to her every once in awhile. Another one I relish is Guitar Man. A long time ago I went with my father, who was a crooner, to a piano bar and for a last song I requested ‘If’. He immediately recognized what a poetic and beautiful lament it is. The songs speak across the generations.

It takes a rare love to let his woman go after learning she is not in love with him. It takes even a stronger love to give her blessings as she leaves him for the one she truly loves. My mother of 97 years old lived through the great depression and unimaginable hardships, she told me once one thing she cannot bear to see is a grown man cry, it just tears her apart. She grew up around lumberjacks and some farmers. She said men of that era were so strong that if they finally did break they had done everything possible and some impossible to make it. We live on the backs of giants.

One of the most beautiful songs made at that time, still holds true today. The feeling and the simplistic vocal and arrangement that hits you right in your heart. I fell in love at an early age with an older girl. Sad to say things changed, mistakes of a misguided youth & yet this song...I lived during a time when girls had diaries some may still have them, it was a good time. Many are gone, innocence lost, age & time take it's toll on our lives. But music like this remains with us to feel, enjoy, & reminisce. Peace 2 ya who remember what it was like back in the day.

It has been many years since I heard this song, I think I heard this on a road trip in a car when I was little. The Simpsons played it in tribute to Edna, voiced by the wonderful Marcia Wallace and I forgot how moving this song was. Edna has one of the best character arcs on the show. To see her go through all that hardship, from overcoming past relationships ... I'm glad she found happiness at the end. She was a great balance for Ned and the boys. Marcia Wallace portrayed what every school teacher should strive to be, whilst maybe having a tough outer exterior they have that deep inner core to help kids out and persevere no matter what. It's why she stayed in Springfield after all. Albeit I miss her from the show, it is a tremendous sign of respect from her colleagues to retire the character when Marcia passed, knowing that no one could ever truly match the wonderful character she had created. I hope you inspire many generations of teachers to come. We will really miss you Mrs K.

Im 13 years old now and I love the songs from the past and this song plays on the radio of my mama many times me and my mama and papa listening to this song and its beautiful until now were still listening to the radio and Im waiting for verry beautiful old songs when I heard a beautiful song and I dont what it is, I asked mama whats the title and search it in youtube and while me and mama listening to songs on radio, were singing too
My love was unrequited, and I spent so much time trying to control the situation, trying to get her to "realize" what we had. Letting go was excruciating and took yet another long time. This song pierces my heart every time. How can such a sad reality be made into such a beautiful song?

For some reason, this song just kept rattling around in my head for the last couple days. Finally, the title came to mind and I here I am listening to it again after so many years. I plan to share it with my peers who are also in their 70s.

My teenage years and I approach 65...great memories!
I first heard this song during my freshman year of college down in Orlando. I was doing my Gen Ed and my philosophy professor played this for the whole class. I loved the song and it introduced me to Bread as a whole lol. Even though this song doesn’t really relate to my situation, I sometimes think of this one girl in that class that I never made a move on whenever I hear this. She had dark hair, wore glasses, used to wear lots of band shirts, and crack her knuckles a lot lol. She and I always sat and waited near each other. We interacted for a bit but I never had the courage to take it any further. I regret not taking an action. There’s a chance that I might see her again seeing that I’m still at that university (albeit in my final year), but I’m hoping that maybe she might visit this video again one day and remember how it was back in that class. I learned my lesson though, I’m never gonna pass up a girl I think I might wanna ask out again.

When I was 18 Years Old I really love listening this kind of music, until now for my 33th birthday, I still love this song,...
"DIARY -BREAD" BREAD I found her diary underneath a tree And started reading about me The words she'd written took me by surprise You'd never read them in her eyes They said that she had found The love she'd waited for Wouldn't you know it? She wouldn't show it When she confronted with the writing there Simply pretended not to care I passed it off as just in keeping with Her total disconcerting air And though she tried to hide The love that she denied Wouldn't you know it? She wouldn't show it And as I go through my life I will give to her my wife All the sweet things, I can find I found her diary underneath a tree And started reading about me The words began to stick and tears to flow Her meaning now was clear to see The love she'd waited for Was someone else not me Wouldn't you know it? She wouldn't show it And as I go through my life I will wish for her his wife All the sweet things she can find All the sweet things they can find
There is a time machine. Every time I hear it I go back in time, I know it's mushy but true

RUAmplified - Ignore all the stupid references to the edible stuff. Good for you, they were a fantastic group. If you like this give Gabrielle's 1999 album 'Rise' a try. This is also very thought provoking in parts. But then it does remind me of the past.....same as some Bread tracks do.

Sheeesh Gates so gifted
