Thanks for uploading. As i have said a few times, the best time for me re:Ilford was the 80s. Great place to shop and the excitement of Xmas and the lights switch on in the high road. I miss those days.

I remember both TIme and Tiny Computer shops - I think they were next door to each other?. I think Time had a green facia. The shops were quite small, and very expensive, even for the time - there was a magazine around at the time called "Micro Mart"and you could buy a custom built system for less than Time/Tiny charged. That said, to be replaced by a pretzel shop is an indignity nobody should suffer.

That last sentence got me laughing! You're right that Time had a green fascia (and an egg timer as its logo). I believe the shops were one and the same, but changed branding once the respective takeovers happened. I completely agree about the pricey nature of their products too. They seemed to offer clunky, bloated packages which weren't competitively priced for the specs, if you shopped around. They didn't seem nice designs either.

I worked in ilford town hall back in 1991 when i was an apprentice electrician. I used to go to the sony centre all the time to look at the hifi gear.. Had a walk around there for the first time this year and was a little shocked. My first ever job was in the hifi department within boota in the basement. I was 16 when is started there and am 51 now.

Great to hear your memories of working and shopping in the town. The Sony Centre was a regular stop on my trips to the Exchange too. A frequent window item in the early 90s was the CD player which played discs vertically. You waved your hand in front of it and its sliding doors opened to reveal the CD face. I never did buy it... The Boots basement was also a regular stop; I loved it back then for all its electronics and music and I'll never forget those sci-fi looking black dome CCTV cameras on the ceiling!

@IlfordRetro the cameras always reminded me of darleks lol. I was a little shocked to see the state of it all when I visited this year.

@IlfordRetro yeah. We used to be ablento site in the staff room that had a canteen on the roof and you could go outside to the terrace and look over ilford.
@IlfordRetro4 ай бұрын
@@Myth_10 I always wondered whether it was possible to get on the roof. I had no idea the staff (room) had access to it and that's what you could do.

Wasn't that computer shop either Time or Tiny. They were once rivals later merged
