Some nice surprises here. Patrick. Tintern Abbey is a most astonishing building, with what remains of it. The windows must have looked fantastic when originally built, with colured glass and lead. The River Wye looks mighty impressive with that heavy flow, and I never realised that it is so wide, and also looking brilliant in the area, with the two bridges that span it. The Devils' Pulpit has also some most impressive views from that summit. Very enjoyable to watch, Patrick, thank you.

I used to spend a lot of time in Tintern and surrounding area in my younger days. The River Wye is my favourite river, but I guess that's a childhood thing again. It's tidal from Brockweir. Devil's Pulpit sure does provide some fab views. Glad you enjoyed it Ffranc, thanks for watching 👍

Lovely video of an area which we have lots of lovely memories from when we lived in the Forest. Visited Devils pulpit 40 years ago. Fantastic views of Tintern. Roger used to go horse riding in Brockweir. Thank you for your fantastic video's.

I am lucky enough to live in the forest of dean , we did the pulpit walk a few years ago. sadly I can not do it now, due to arthritis. so it was so good to see this video, it brought it all back. thank you.

Being Dutch, Tintern Abbey was my very first introduction to Wales, coming down the A466 from Chepstow. You drive out of the woods into Tintern, then you see the Abbey to the right. And oh my God, what a stunner!!

Just discovered your channel because I wanted to relive the visit my late wife and I made to Ross on Wye in December 1978. I'm Dutch so the English/Welsh country side to me is so much more varied and interesting compared to Holland. We had an amazing and very romantic few days and also walked up to the devil's pulpit and visited Tintern Abbey. I don't know what time of year you did your video but it looks exactly as I remembered! Also being a musician myself I like how you create your own soundtracks, I will be checking out Malvern and Brecon Beacons next as that was another memorable holiday. Thanks for the uploads!

It's been a long time since I've been to Devil's Pulpit but it was certainly worth the walk up there again in this case. It wasn't an easy climb onto the stone I must admit and I'd hoped for comedy value it might have looked funnier! :) You'd love Tintern Abbey. One of my favourite holidays was to the Wye Valley. We stayed in Symonds Yat and did many walks along the river. It was lovely to see Tintern again and the Devils Pulpit. We walked up and I also climbed on top to take a picture of the Abbey. It is wonderful to be able to relive memories of places I will never see again. Keep up the good work.

A truly beautiful part of the Wye Valley and one that will surely resonate with Mark the Wye Explorer. ;-) Where you climbed up the hill from Brockweir; a large group of us (36) were entertained by a Georgian Choir from Bristol, around this time last year. They were as pleased to discover an audience as we were to listen! Being on the hillside, overlooking the valley and with that sound... I'll always remember. It's area I don't visit often enough, although I do recognise some of the paths you followed. One day, I may even pay to explore Tintern Abbey. I thought you were brave to scramble up on to the Pulpit - in all the people I've seen pass with their cameras, I've not seen anyone attempt that. ;-) All the best and I hope you're having a great weekend. I think the cold and wet days are behind us for a while.

Hi Olly, this certainly did resonate with Mark as I expect you've seen his comments too :) I've now got visions of echoing voices through the valley, I think during this walk I saw the odd sheep bleating, so that was all the singing I encountered! :) :) I got this walk from a book which is a variation of the "typical" walk from Tintern to Devil's Pulpit. Most seem to follow a longer stretch of Offa's Dyke than I did here as my route took me across those fields to Miss Grace's Lane as a very pleasant alternative. Scrambling onto the Pulpit wasn't too bad actually, it was climbing back down that was the challenge! I wanted to include a bit of this footage in my final film as I thought it might have made a good comedy moment, but I didn't use it in the end sadly due to making sure my film didn't run for longer than 20 minutes. Weekend has been pretty good so far, as you say weather is definitely on the up now. I'm sure you've been making the most of it too Olly and been getting out there. Catch you again soon. This past bank holiday weekend, my friend Dennis & I watched this video and it influenced us to take a trip there and follow your tracks!! Fantastic. One of my favourites,time flew by watching this,hand on heart better than any travel show I'v ever seen on tv,the music was especially delightful and suited it perfectly,do you play the guitar as well Patrick or is it one of the effects of the organ,those lessons were well worth it. I'd heard of Tintern Abbey but didn't know it was so majestic,I had no idea one existed so complete,it looks like all it needs is glass and the roof. The walk was lovely and the view from Devils Pulpit,love how you set the camera up to film yourself climbing it. Like you,I could have sat by the river with a cuppa all afternoon and watched it flow past,in fact I think I would have done. Thank you Pete. I just play the organ/keyboard, I don't play any other instrument, so the guitar sounds comes from my keyboard. This was a hard one to do as I was running out of time when I finished filming in Brockweir, but I really pushed myself to get the walk to Devil's Pulpit done. I'm so glad I did. I love the way you frame your shots Patrick - adds something really evocative to the videos. Draws you in! This was another fabulous walk and video. Not only did you remember but you once again took me down memory lane. That route out of Brockweir I hiked with Paul in 2015. I think you might be right Patrick in saying it is possibly the most beautiful place in Britain. Those who gave birth to the tourist movement back in the day certainly thought so as did the great writers you mentioned one of which (Gibbings) I'm reading at present. Thanks as always Mark! :) I'm pleased again this walk took you down memory lane as it did for me revisiting this neck of the woods after so long. Coming here on this occasion I found I couldn't decide weather Tintern or Brockweir is more beautiful, so I think they are as great as each other in their own ways, Brockweir probably winning for me as I've always loved sleepy villages and it's less touristy than Tintern. The cup of tea went down very well Mark afterwards, as did the burger in the Premier Inn in Monmouth that evening where I was staying! :) Well as I always say Mark thanks for watching and for your great comments. Loving these Wye Valley videos. Did you know Iron Maiden shot their video with Graham Chapman (Monty Python) for for 'Can I play with Madness' at Tintern Abbey? Lovely part of Britain.
