Mine is a July 2006 one with the 140 bhp 236 ft lb TDI engine with the 6 speed manual gearbox. It has done 322,000 km and has never given me a single mechanical problem. It is a smooth rider and is mechanically tough as old boots. I do not envisage buying another car in many, many years. By the way, I love all its physical buttons, and yes, I use the CD player every single day.

Is It Just Me Or Does This Year Model Look Better Than The Current? I Mean Everything From The Projector Headlamps, LED Rear Turn Signals. The New Model Has Halogen Lights. That's Just A Small Thing. The Interior On The 07 Model Is Very Classy. I'd Prefer The 06 Model Over The 12' Anyday

many people complain about too much hard plastics inside, not me - hard or not they have a high quality finish that looks very good and as far as i can tell - much less dust gets stuck in them... if you get the sportseats try to get ones with the alcantara middle or cloth instead of full leather - they are supportive but just a little bit too slippery in corners to give you full comfort, but as all VW - they seem to fit everyone and keep your spine feeling great in long journeys
@mazinais3115 жыл бұрын
steering is quite sharp and nicely weighted, maybe a littlebit numb in the middle but you feel the road very good in corners, electrical power steering works only when you actually use it and gives a natural feel and there's no hydraulic pump under the bonnet, the engine is still somwhere in front of the wheels but is mounted sideways so it does not have that really heavy nose the previous model had - instead it feels light and zippy and puts a smile on your face, not a bmw - but very good
@mazinais3115 жыл бұрын
in terms of practicality it's miles ahead tho - it's the small things that make the car special - it has big pockets for stuff everywhere, double sunvisors that cover both front and sides, huge boot that opens by pressing a button, even a place for a umbrella in each front door, mine has a few minor interior rattles but again it has something to do with the fact the car is already 4.5 years old,

I loved the way he drove between the cones from 2:08.. i have a 2008 passat 2.0 TDI highline in black and it just looks gorgeous. I guess this is the best looking car available in the market. The new one is ugly though.

My husband bought when brand new back in 2007 and it was an absolute nightmare. Literally it spent more time in the dealership getting repaired under warranty then it did in our driveway. Half the time they either couldn't figure out which electrical Gremlin was failing and the guessing game they kept playing required ordering parts that took weeks and months rather than days to arrive. It was so bad and so common that VW was finally forced to buy the car back under the Lemon Law. After owning the car for 14 months it literally had 4,600 miles on it. He probably put 15 times that amount on all the rental cars he was stuck driving?
@mazinais3115 жыл бұрын
also if you geta new one - the 2009 facelift changes a couple of very small things in interior... like a new instrument panel from the cc and some small accents and i hear the interior quality is up also ... anyways take a test drive :) and check out "Volkswagen Passat 2.0TDI Highline DSG in HD" from Erikpassat's channel - must be the best passat video on youtube ;)

2006-2008 2.0T have the FSI motor and are notoriously unreliable. Get an 09-10 TFSI 2.0T and you should be good. Be wary of high maintenance costs but it's safe and if you go for a 4-motion V6 they are great in the snow!
@peloconchasabe12177 жыл бұрын
What is the reason you say the FSI motor are notoriously unreliable? Do you have any info? Im going to buy one of these but that is a thing to worry about.
@peloconchasabe12177 жыл бұрын
The one I am looking forward has 50000 miles/80000 kilometers
@TheYellowSchoolBusDude7 жыл бұрын
The TSI uses a timing chain instead of the belt on the FSI, which can break causing serious damage. Although, I haven't heard of many cases of this happening...it's something that needs to be changed around 75-100K miles, depending on where you live, how you drive, how brave you are, etc. If the cam follower hasn't been replaced on the FSI engine, chances are the cam/cam follower/high pressure fuel pump will go bad, The valve cover gaskets are known to leak oil and need to be replaced more often than usual. Other minor differences...the TSI has lower compression pistons (and possibly stronger internals), and the fuel system is more robust than the FSI.I also speak from experience. My 08 had the valve cover gaskets replaced twice from the VW dealer. 68k and 91k miles.
@TheVoiceOfReason6 жыл бұрын
A cam belt failure due to IMPROPER MAINTENANCE does not give you the right to call it unreliable. If you don't replace a cam belt in any car, the engine WILL fail. Timing chains are better, but alas, they don't make the manufacturers as much money in maintenance costs.

where did my comment disappear? :) anyway - roll on fresh rubber to avoid tire/road noise, best to avoid early 2005/06 models ... they tend to have some electrical problems, seen a "steering lock error" on dash, also deler fixed a electric wiring problem for 1 injector.... they should have made the interior fit n finish quality just a little bit better to make it a perfect car, servicing costs are german but if you take care of your car - nothnig to worry about, seems to be very reliable

I am looking at purchasing an 06 passat and I dont know much about cars. I need a safe car that I wont need to spend alot of money on for repairs and maintanance. I need opinions on wither this is a good or bad decision.. Like I said, I dont know much about cars.
@dmoor107 жыл бұрын
If cheap repairs are your main concern, don't get a Passat of this generation. If a great ride good power and a classy appearance is, then buy it. I love mine. It's a 07 with 180k miles and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country right now. That being said when something does break it ain't cheap but of course I only service mine at the dealer.
@theNickolasDean7 жыл бұрын
duosbaby9 I agree with dmoor10 I have an 08 Passat 160k miles I've had to put a lot of money into it for repairs and maintenance but I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across country right now either it's an amazing German sedan amazing power and handling is unmatched but the 2.0t in my car is very expensive to deal with keep that in mind the car also has some weird electrical problems

Passat B5.5 is the best Passat💯 B6 rusty wheel arches and injector problem
@dorianpalinic57033 жыл бұрын
well the b5.5 is a facelift of the b5, so its obvious that its gonna be reliable. This is the b6 model which was pre-facilfted in this test, so problems are likely, especially cause it was new tech and design at that tame. the b6 got facelifted in 2009, and also as the b7 model, so it was more reliable then
