@histrav - Tom Cruise is likeable too, and so is Madonna - they also work for their living. Perhaps you should start a Tom Cruise for king, or Madonna for queen club. It could be fun! At present there are more devotees of Hare Krishna than Mr DeGrecia in Greece.

To rule in Athens is the King's birthright. We handed the keys over to corrupt politicians that are not accountable to anyone. And this is better? Greece has been a Kingdom for the majority of the time since 1821. You may find it surprising just how many of us patriotic Greeks are loyal to our royal family. God save the king. God save Hellas.

I was born a subject, with the departure of monarchy I became a citizen. I have no interest in becoming a subject again.

as if the monarchy was so bad. they tortured their people.
@acstamos2 жыл бұрын
@@Lawrence-mh8dx It is not a matter whether they tortured people of not, it is a matter of temperament. I don't think that the monarchy is compatible with the Greek psyche. In addition, the last king was particularly bad for the Greek national interests. Read the first constitution of the Greeks (Trizina) and you will see why we should have never had a monarchy in modern times.

You may find it interesting that even when the Phoenician symbols were employed and modified to the needs of the Greek language the sound for ξ was achieved by using Κ+Σ, Γ+Σ, or Χ+Σ. Infact the increased frequency of ξ in epigraphs after, 434 BC in Athens, can give us rough guidelines towards dating, before employing more accurated methods. Note: I am not a Communist, a Nazi, a Freemason, a Jew, or part of a group of conspirators to overthrow your government. I'm not even Greek.

As a groupie of Mr DeGrecia, that I understand you to be, you must have a record of all his interviews since Dec 1967 when he was given his marching orders by the junta, who to your disappointment were not communist but former Nazi collaborators working for his uncle George. Now, you will find that after a certain date he abandoned the "Byzantine card". This was after he was made aware by his "promotion manager" that Byzantium and Eastern Rome were barely on nodding terms.

Greece doesn't need a monarchy, I think it's out of touch with todays world. Republics fine. Good health and long life to you Mr DeGrecia

Finally, before I go, your homework till next time would be to look up where and how the word ΑΝΑΞ was used for the first time outside the Homeric texts. It should be easy to someone with your resources who ... knows what the ... feminine form of ANAΞ is!
@sylviaphryne12 жыл бұрын
I should have to correct you - without prejudice - regarding your Linear-B comments: ϝΑ-ΝΑ-ΚΑ, feminine ϝΑ-ΝΑ-ΚΑ-ΣΑ, contracted to ϝΑ-ΝΑ- ΣΑ. Consonants did not exist by themselves in written script. Also there is no syllabic record or evidence of ξ. But according to Michael Ventris' rules, two syllables including the phonetic values of K and Σ could be used together: e.g. KAΣΑ, ΚΕΣΕ, ΚΟΣΟ, ΚΙΣΙ. The vowel chosen was subject to the vowel preceding or following. Words ended with a vowel.

"Likeable" for whoever likes that sort of thing. He is a religious fanatic and head and shoulders shorter than me - so count me out. I simply used T.C. as an example of a "likeable" person, because all Greek girls that I met at College are crazy for him. I could have used someone else. I wanted to highlight two facts: First, standards of likeability tend vary. Second, just because someone is "likeable", to some, it's hardly a good reason to hand over to him, or her, the keys of the city.

Re: "oldest royal line in Europe" I can see that you posted this some time ago. I hope that since then you had to opportunity to review what you posted. The "line" was a mere technicality instigated by Napoleon during his dictatorship. At any rate to have Josephine, Napoleon's first wife and notorious Parisian courtesan, as an ancestor apart from being unflattering is hardly "royal". With all due respect I fail to see how Greece will "show us the way". Where? In to bankruptcy perhaps?

@"...communist defamation of our king..." [sic] If communism were around at the time of the American War of Independence, the American Patriots would have been labeled as communist. Also, Otto would have tried to explain his systematic elimination of the heroes of the Greek Revolution in terms of "saving Greece from communism", and most of the protagonists of the Liberation, like Kolokotronis, Makrygiannis and others, would have been "communist". Venizelos, a communist too?

Finally, there is no Greek word for king. The Mycenaean words with the phonetic values ϜA-NA-KA and BA-SI-LE-US, which feature in Linear-B tablets in the syllabic script, and later in the Homeric Epics as ANΑΞ and ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ, are linguistically, non-Greek. And no I do not find it surprising that a misguided and servile minority is "loyal" to a Danish/German whose mother served Hitler in the Jungmädelbund -I can see that 18 Hitler groupies managed to slime their way in your Parliament last month!

@"....oldest royal line left in Europe":- Even if it were true, so what? Having a record of your family's births and deaths is hardly a qualification towards lording it over others. Worth noting that the compatriots and supporters of the real "oldest royal line" in Europe have never tried to justify in such terms their preference for Parliamentary Democracy with a King (rather than President) as a decorative and ceremonial head of state.

@ ϝάναξ:- KZbin does not support Linear-B characters. In the tablets of Knossos, and later Pylos and Mycenae, the word features syllabically as WA-NA-KA and has no Hellenic roots linguistically. If you choose to think otherwise then you are free to exercise what you appear to abhor: your democratic rights to free thought. There is a society known as The Flat Earth Society, whose members choose to believe that the earth is flat, and see all evidence pointing elsewhere as godless conspiracy.

@ "Your agenda is clear to all thinking men":- And I take it that as a "thinking man" yourself you can "clearly" see my "agenda": ____ which according to your wisdom is the agenda of a communist, a Jew, an anarchist, a Freemason, a godless individual who does not believe in the miracles of St Onufrius, and who, to make things worse, has read Darwin. Even worse, the sound of the languages that I speak in your ears sound like barbarbar - which makes me a "barbarian". Charming!
