Welcome to another episode on the R2D channel! This time, we test the condition of engine oil used in a 2021 Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI (e-Tec, 150 HP) with 46,000 km on the clock.
Episode Highlights:
Third Stage of Testing: Building on results from episodes #56 and #137.
Two Samples Comparison: Fresh oil vs. used oil after 8,400 km and 15,550 km of use.
Oil Brands Tested: VW LongLife IV 0W-20 compared with Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5W-30.
Key Findings:
Viscosity Results: Both samples of 0W-20 maintained excellent parameters, with the 15,550 km sample surprisingly outperforming the 8,400 km sample.
Chromatography & Infrared Analysis: Similar overall quality between 0W-20 and 5W-30, with differences in additive degradation, oxidation, and contamination levels.
Fuel Dilution & Sulfonation: VW 0W-20 showed signs of fuel presence and higher sulfonation levels compared to Liqui Moly.
Conclusions:
The tested 0W-20 oil offers competitive performance for the recommended intervals.
The 15,550 km sample suggests this oil can handle extended use without significant degradation.
Results spark an interesting debate: is 0W-20 truly superior for this engine compared to 5W-30?
