the interplay between Daphne and Niles is so perfect. She’s completely clueless that Niles is in love with her - and manages to constantly look at her and be completely knocked out when anything sexy is mentioned. his pratfalls are so hilarious with straight face (holy heck! he reminds me of Buster Keaton :). and he’s so Victorian about it. then you add Frasier into the picture always watching Niles who always reacts to him - well, it’s written so perfectly and the acting so incredible, you just laugh with your whole soul. 😋🤭🐶

Fraser was a one of a kind sitcom: more popular than the spin-off it came from. It was smart and very funny at the same time., a rare combination indeed. The characters were developed slowly like a savory stew on a slow cooker. The all consuming love niles had for Dafney was well worth the wait.

@@gucktaree8239 Mad Men is relatively old and won tons of awards in it's day. It is a really good show, made back when HBO was the pinnacle of television entertainment. That's why nowadays so many modern shows attempt to imitate what made their shows so good but instead get lost in what made them seem mature and shocking back then (severe violence, graphic nudity, and obscene language). Unfortunately what these shows (netflix, prime, etc.) today fail to realize is that it was the writing that captured the audiences admiration, the shocking (at the time) additions of mature themes helped keep people's attention but flat writing quickly loses viewers Edit: don't get me started on how awful movies are today and their complete erosion from what made them great

Re-watching, I think Daphne did have feelings for Niles and was very close to him during all those years but she just thought it was friendship for both of them or didn't want to admit it to herself. the minute she found out that he was in love with her, her feelings are immediately there and she wants to be with him for real. They always had a connection but Niles tried to be respectful of Daphne and Daphne wasn't ever sure.

She did seem a little suspicious in the early episodes. Notice her look when Niles says he wasn't staring. There is also the Martha Paxton episode where she actually acuses him of sniffing her hair. But once she started seeing him as a friend, I guess she just blocked it out. I would recommend watching season 5's Perspectives on Christmas and you'll see that in Daphne's story, Niles' come-on about the mistletoe is completely different to how it actually happened. In short: she doesn't see it because she doesn't want to see it.
@lumariadp
@lumariadp 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. I'm doing a rewatch and I've noticed a few times before she found out how he felt where she seemed at least mildly interested. Most obvious is the one where she fights with Sherry and goes to Niles' during a heat wave. Yes, they played it like she just needed a good roll in the hay, but it really seemed she had an inkling of how he felt and was also interested a little herself, but didn't want to ruin the friendship.

So we have just completed a couple of months of unparalled delight. We have so enjoyed it! The writer is a magician, the timing is masterful, the plots human and believeable, the acting superb. I can honestly say it's in the top drawer of my comedy favourites and all I can as now is "what can we replace it with during our supper together?" So far very little

gail margolis In the episode, "Perspectives on Christmas", it's made clear that Daphne is completely oblivious to Nile's crush on her. Niles was teasing about kissing her about standing a under a mistletoe, but in her views, he was warning her that a piece may fall into her eye, and so we get an idea on what she notices. I agree with you though, she claims to be psychic, yet didn't realize that Niles loved her.

Adding to that, Jane Leeves also apparantly said that Daphne sublimates his feelings out of feelings of inferiority. I mean, her calling them "Dr/Mr Crane" is not just a gimmick, it's fairly central to Daphne's character and how she defines herself as an employee in the Crane household. If I recall correctly, in a very early episode she even thought that she would be expected to eat her meal standing in the kitchen, rather than sit at the table with the family. So she doesn't think Niles could like her due to class difference.

Darthen856 I just want to fill in England is really a class society. Obsessed of class and what schools you went to. Daphne is a working class lass from Manchester she never thought someone like Niles would want to be with her.

You don't want a Maris, no way no how, nor a Mel. Hell, I'm a female Niles with a male Daphne (it even works in that I, like Niles, am American and my Daphne's also English) and sometimes it's torturous as all get out. **sigh**

I'm from England and Seinfeld has never really worked over here. Having watched it I wouldn't say I'm a big fan. It's the difference between American and British humour I suppose. Everyone talks about Friends when it comes to the best sitcoms, whilst it is great, Frasier is better in almost every way for me. I think it's just that friends is more relatable.

+James Ovenden I'm from America and Seinfeld, though funny at times, didn't always work for me either. Frasier was/is the best! Some episodes literally had me tearing from laughter. The writing was often times brilliant! Loved friends too but nothing compares to Frasier. IMO!

Makes sense he would be. Niles is other directed in a lot of ways, and doesn't lack sensitivity and suppressed passion. He's also absolutely crazy about Daphne, and just imagine his passion in being able to make love to her at last.
