My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

Another helpful video for introducing people to the different aspects of investing. I decided to create a portfolio that focused on dividend income and figured this out a few months ago while looking at REITs. At first, I was thinking I would profit $1k per month until I realized that the rate was yearly with a quarterly dividend; there are some that pay a monthly dividend. That $1k is a little more than $83/mo., which means that I have to up my investments, if I want more than $83/mo.🤔 My goal is to have enough dividend income to cover my housing expenses. 🙂

My advice to new investors: Buy good companies stocks and hold them as long as they are good companies. Just do this and ignore the forecasts and market views which are at best entertaining but completely useless.

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. It's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. That holds true from long term investing to day trading.

I totally agree; I am 66 years old, recently retired, with approximately $1.2 million in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, I didn't do all this alone, but with the help of a financial advisor. Having one is currently the best way to trade in the stock market, especially for people nearing retirement.

Is there any chance you could recommend who you work with? I've wanted to make this switch for a very long time now, but I've been very hesitant about. I'll appreciate any recommendation.

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or whenever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

People (especially black folks) will fight the idea of spending $167,000 on Costco stocks to get $1,000/month in dividends (passive income)…. ….but then they’ll go to the Mercedes dealer and finance a $167,000 G Wagon which will COST them $1,000/month at 10% interest, spending probably $267,000 over the course of 5-6 years 🤦🏽♂️. Anyways, I love this video man, as I’m just entering the stock market arena. 👍🏽👍🏽
