The Memphis Hustle rallied late for a comeback win over the Iowa Wolves, 138-134 on Monday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena.
Memphis (1-1), which had all five starters score in double figures, closed the game with a 9-2 run after trailing Iowa (0-2) by three points with 1:07 remaining in the game.
Memphis Grizzlies assignment Jake LaRavia scored a game-high 28 points while Matthew Hurt had 24 points. The Hustle took the lead for good after LaRavia’s layup which came after Hurt’s block and then a Wolves’ turnover that led to a dunk by Hurt that was the go-ahead bucket with 29.4 seconds.
D.J. Carton paced the Wolves with 25 points and added seven assists and five rebounds while Minnesota assignment Wendell Moore Jr. finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Nojel Eastern and Trevor Keels each scored 19 points. Rounding out Iowa’s double figure scorers were Leonard Miller (16), Lance Stephenson (14) and Tyrese Martin (12).
Moore’s layup at the 4:19 mark in the fourth quarter gave Iowa a seven-point lead. The Wolves went 19-for-19 at the free throw line and made 14 three-pointers. Memphis shot 53.7 percent from the floor and made 19 threes.
