Welcome to the fourth round of the Championship. This is a great class and if you're a beginner or looking to get started, 4WD TT-02 is the way to go. What makes it even better, is there are common parts with the buggy version - so you can try out both on-road racing and the indoor-buggy racing and keep costs down. Please check the rules at your local club, as this is not an officially sanctioned NZRCA class, so the rules vary from club to club throughout the country, for example the Taranaki Radio Control Car Club use the TT-01 platform, and race with truck body shells - which look incredible.
Handling of these cars is not as easy as the fully fledged carbon fibre chassis found in other classes. The biggest thing is you might see some weaving or jerking down the straight; and that is because there is no caster, or 0 degrees of caster locked in on these cars. Similar to a shopping trolley at your supermarket, without caster it makes it very easy to corner, but you lose straight line stability. Mixed in with 0 degrees of toe on all-four wheels - it makes for a less than easy run down the straight. However once they are flowing through the infield, all is good as the cars to everything you expect. Once adjustment you can make on your transmitter is to turn down the steering curve... so those minor inputs to the steering you make as you go down the straight become halved - but you still get full lock for the infield.
NHRCCC run the GT rules, so drivers can use any Tamiya GT3, GT4, GT500, GT300 or GTE bodyshell. Many of the TT-02 kits come supplied with one of these bodies, so there is no need to spend extra money to enter. There is great range that Tamiya manufacture, you can buy a non-GT spec body and add a wing, but here is the current range from Tamiya:
- Mercedes GT3: www.tamiya.com...
- Nissan GTR: www.tamiya.com...
- Subaru BRZ: www.tamiya.com...
