Great breakdown Freddy! I’m glad I’ve seen this series and comparison. I was planning on picking up a TT02 at somepoint to add to my collection but it does seem like the better buy to get a TT02d!

Thanks John! Yeah, as a whole it's a way better deal for sure and like I say in the video, if you just get some regular wheels and tires for it you've got both the TT02D and the TT02.

@@FastFreddyRC exactly, with the extra hopups it makes more sense to get the tt02d than to try and turn a tt02 into a tt02d which I was thinking about doing

Great video Freddy and boy the car looks fantastic!!! The 4wd kits have always been considered a cheater drift car as it makes it too easy to control but it sure is fun! The 2wd drift kits looks and run amazing but the price tag on many is outrageous and way too much. I have looked at the MST kits and if I were to pick up a specific drift car kit it would be one of theirs. I can't see Tamiya making a 2wd drift car as the price on it would be astronomical!!

Thank you Addam! This was a fun video to put together. And yes I’d have to say I agree with you 100% - turned out even better than I could have imagined. I’m not into drifting as a whole but man this is a lot of fun to drive. I’m going to take it to a skate park next and see what sort of crazy slides I can get this into. I will continue to practice lol - it looks so cool when you have it in a controlled slide. But you’re right…a Tamiya version would be $$$$. I just don’t know if I would get enough use out of a true drift car to be worth buying one but the MST seems like the best choice for value/$$$$. For me this TT02D is great because I can definitely see me taking the drift tires off so I can use it as a regular TT02. Two worlds in one seems perfect!

I bought the TT02, but because it is black Friday, I spend $160, the rc kit, the steering bell crank, fast Eddy full set bearings, adjustable motor mount aluminum, and cvd. Will be my first Tamiya. I bought it because of the many options I have
@FastFreddyRC

Nice! Black Friday will certainly change some of these costs. I saw a kit here in Canada that was marked down by almost $100.00 for Black Friday. I think it's still on sale and I'm thinking I should get it just because. If this is your first Tamiya, I think with all the extras you've bought you're going to have some fun with this...I really like the TT02 chassis as there are so many parts you can buy to customize it.

So I witnessed actual drifting in actual cars in 1990 in Kanagawa Japan. I ended up living there for a total of 25 years. I have built, repaired and modified 100’s of rc cars and I have seen so many Japanese folks having a great time drifting 4wd and 2wd rc cars. Somehow, rc drift cars are only “true” if they are rear 2wd as decided by who? This is a hobby and to be enjoyed as such, so if your car slides and you can control it, called it a “drift car” and just have fun and be happy. The need for parameters and definitions is only necessary to those selling the way over priced kits. FYI, I’m currently building a Tamiya TL01 RWD drift just because I’m having fun doing so.
@FastFreddyRC
@FastFreddyRC 3 күн бұрын
Totally makes sense! When it comes to R/C if you're having fun it doesn't matter whether it's 4WD or 2WD. This TT02D kit I probably use more than my other kits because I enjoy trying to control the car and enjoy seeing and hearing the wheels spinning all the time. Plus this Mazda RX7 body just looks awesome flying around the skatepark.

Great video by the way, very interesting facts about the TT02D chassis very very interesting indeed. You only missed 1 difference that most people don't know is that the TT02D comes with 2 longer drive shafts for the rear, giving the car wider track at the rear. Cool if you want to put wider wheels on the back like the Porsche and the likes.😊😊😊

Thanks Allan! Appreciate it. Interesting about the driveshafts. I’ll have to take a closer look and compare with my TT02. I don’t think I noticed that. I know with both the TT02 and TT02D the kits come with larger rear hubs as extra pieces so that you can do what you’re talking about. Just wasn’t aware that the drive shafts themselves were different.

I hate to break it to torque motorsports but awd only sends power to the font or any other wheel if the car has some type of torque vectoring. I drifted my eclipse all the time and it was only 375HP at the wheels without a center diff the front and back are both getting 50/50 power and as for the front wheels the car just goes were you point them!

Great video fella. Really enjoyed this one, a great summary of all things TTO2! I love what you have done with that Mazda shell, looks so cool! 😎 Getting the 'D' over the stock one is a no brainier by the looks of it. I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the TTO2 platform in its stock form..... but you have to admire Tamiyas huge array of gorgeous body shells for this chassis! But, with extensive upgrades and modifications this can be made into a really good car..... which I guess is half the fun eh mate? I'm still haunted by the experience of driving a totally stock TTO2 with a 3995 kv motor and 3s for last year's poor boys rc speed challenge! 😂 With its sloppy non adjustable steering,poor traction stock tires, huge amount of torque steer, bouncy pogo shocks and flappy plastic prop shaft it was an absolute pig to drive with all that power! 😂 But I really enjoyed the moment I hit that Kurb head on at 51mph and saw it flying through the moon lit sky to its plastic shattering demise!!!!! 😬 I've seen Rex fine tune these things into serious track animals..... So, I would love to one day drive one with all the modifications that you mentioned, which are all very essential to make this chassis flat out perform and redeem itself! Great to see some running footage on the channel...... don't those Kurbs approach quickly, made me cringe..... Kurbs are my nemesis! 😂 All the best matey! 👍 👍 👍 😊

Thanks James! Really appreciate the kind words! I'm going to do another running video of this but with the normal road tires and see how fast this actually can with all the hop-ups it has right now. So much speed is lost running it on the drift tires so I'm curious to know how much faster it could really go. Yeah...the 51mph crash into a curb is definitely going to result in damage lol - in one of the closeup shots in the running video I did if you look closely I bent the front grill with that one curb hit I did and I wasn't amused lol - but like you said...the curbs come up fast. I really am hoping to do a lot more running videos this year..that's definitely the plan. But I find with my work schedule I end up just building them rather than driving them lol - but I'm determined to finally have some running videos this year!

@@FastFreddyRC Oh for sure, when you have a body looking as nice as that one it's always guna hurt mate! That's why I have separate cars for running, and others for display. When you ding a certified runner it just gives it character, but dinging a shelf queen just takes all the fun out of it.... and it bugs you every time you look at it! Great to hear of some up and coming running content mate. I can totally relate to the time thing, especially as I work 7 days a week. But the beauty of this hobby is all the different sides to it- Collecting, building, restoring, customising, running etc etc..... each has its place depending on the seasons and how much spare time we get. Just keep having fun, that's what it's all about! 😊 👍 👍 👍

What a brilliant video. I am not remotely interested in drifting (its another RC Rabbit hole I do not want to enter) so I have never looked into these kits. Seems a no brainer if you want a TT02, especially if you wanted one of the bodies that are only available on the 'D' chassis. Certainly opened my eyes about them. 😊😊 and yes, tunability is a word 😄😄😄

You are incorrect on the difference between the tr02 to the tro2d. The D comes with full bearings, heat sink, sport tuned motor , oil filled black cva dampers and the diffs are oil filled. The normal tto2 is pogo bushing and zero metal. The d has some blue items in the kit. I have the rx7 tto2d and the limited clear body nsx tto2 and boy they don't compare period. I have some yeah racing drift rear arms on my D car alond with the full yeah racing aluminum hop up kit with the drive shafts and quotous yeah adjustable clicker shocks ( highly recommend by the way very very cool dampers) also have the Tamiya carbon fiber shock stays and used a trf 414 rear gear diff set from the xv02 and front one way sway bar kit an so on. All done in Tamiya blue bling. My nsx normal tt02 I put the Tamiya carbon reenforced chassis and fast eddy bearing kit and the yeah racing magenta aluminum hop up kit wich matches my chassis #068 x011 hara edition express touring car. Either way they look absolutely beautiful sitting side by side on the shelf

Hi there. So I appreciate you reaching out but in case others read this comment I think we need to clear up a few things. For one, I'm not sure which part of the video you are finding misleading? If you use the product codes that I mention, and even some of the retailer brands I mention, you'll be able to easily find the same prices online that I mention in the video. And most of the parts mentioned are official Tamiya products. Everything in this video is based on fact so I've done more than my share of research. This took me an incredible amount of time to put together so that I could have the most accurate information at the time of making the video which still hold true today. I'm actually really curious to know what shop you have found all these items for at the prices you're finding. For example, if I can buy a Tamiya TLU-01 light unit for $9.30 please sign me up...I'll buy 10 of them right now on the spot. Because here are some actual prices for the TLU-01 Light Unit that you'll find off leading hobby store websites here in Canada and the USA. In Canada: GreatHobbies $77.99, CanadaHobbies $79.99, and if we go to Amazon Canada just for fun it's still $49.50 CDN / In the USA - AMAIN has it for $51.99 and RCMART (which really isn't USA it's direct from China) is still $32.90 USD and in Germany, at Tamico, one of the biggest hobby shops in Europe, is selling the TLU-01 light unit for 33.61 Euros which is about $50 CDN. If I do this same product pricing based on what you mentioned with the other items you bought I can't even come close to those numbers. So I'd definitely like to know are these Tamiya products and if so where can I buy them so cheap? All the best!
