do you think I should get the Kx 112 or 2021 yz 125 as my first 2 stroke because I'm 15 and 5'10 and never ridden a 2 stroke before and I look at your 125-85 rebuild tutorials before I get the bike so I can see what I need to do when it's time for a new top end

Hello. At 5,10 I would totally suggest a 125. The bigger wheels will make it easier to ride at your height. The smaller wheels of the 112 will make the bike feel more unstable. 125 all the way!

Hi mate, i have a question. I have yzf 250 2017 and I started to having cold start problems so i check the valves, exhaust valves are in specs but intake is wayyy to tight I cant stick 0.05 mm in there. So do I need just reshim it or i need new valves, thanks

Hello. If the intake valves are that out of spec, that means they have worn through the hard coating they put on the titanium valves. You will want to install new valves at this point. I mean you can adjust them and it will run good for about 4 hours and then need another adjustment because the hard coating that keeps them from wearing has worn away. So surely just put in some new valves. Might as well do a piston while in there. What causes the titanuim intake valves to wear through the hard coating is sand and dirt that has made it through the filter. So be sure to check for sand in the intake track

On the 2022-2024 Kx 112 do you still have to pull the carb out to get the cylinder off? Or can you just leave it now and get to the cylinder like the Yz 125

The 112 is just like the 85, carb will come off to do a top end.

is there a brake in period for rebuilding them? just rebuilt my 23 112 with new top end and it messed up the cylinder and the piston in less than 3 hours

For sure. A good 3 heat cycles on the stand is what I do. And then make the first ride a easy ride for about 8 to 10 minutes. The KX80,85,100,112 is very hard on pistons and needs to be warmed up well before getting on the gas hard. Often when people start them and go wide open throttle before fully warm they melt the piston onto the cylinder wall. it more likely to do that with a new piston because clearances are tighter. Not saying thats what happen but thats when I see this most often.

It looks like the KX100 shares the same crank as the KX85. But the KX112 has a different crank. With just quick research it seems the KX100 cylinder and piston will bolt right on your KX85. But for the KX112 I am not sure, more research would have to be done.

Hello. No you do not want to hone a nickle plated cylinder (they are honed when new and thats the only time it should be honed). Just clean up the cylinder to remove the melted piston, and if the cylinder is still good then install a new piston and go with it.

I am not sure yet. But I would just buy OEM gaskets and use a wiseco piston for a good solid top end.
