1/2 Ton Chevy Cluster Swap (Trans Temp Gauge)

Want to add a trans temp gauge to your 1/2 ton chevy truck? You can easily swap in a 2500 or 3500 cluster with built in trans temp gauge.

Does the transmission gauge just automatically start to work in other words when you put the cluster in the ecm tells the gauge the temp?

i have a 2001 gmc sierra i guess u can say its identical to the 01 silverado an im want to add a 02 cluster that has the trans temp its off an escalade condering it s basiclly the same thing it should worl right

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment.

I have a 2000 Silverado but I’m wanting to add this gauge cluster to mine, you think if I get the one that works with controls steering wheel and the cluster would it work on my 2000? Like fuel range and stuff like that?

No it won’t, you need a 2000-2002 cluster. 2003+ won’t work.

Can i just add the trans temp gauge to my cluster ? Or do i need to reprogram the cluster once ive dropped the gauge in? My silverado did NOT come with a trans temp gauge from factory.

Cluster has to be programmed for it. Easier to find a cluster with a trans temp gauge already in it.

Yes, just make sure you get one compatible with your year and that has or doesn’t have Steering controls. Based on what you have. Then just need to get mileage programmed.

Could I use a cluster out of a Escalade around same year ? So I have a 03 avalanche would I be able to use 03 to 06 Escalade cluster ?

Can I just add a stepper motor in the trans temp spot and gauge overlay to my existing cluster that has trans temp? Or do I need to program the cluster

So you literally just plug it in and the trans temperature gauge just started working? And you didn’t have to install anything else?

Yes, I’ve done a 2000 and a 2003 and both worked. Just make sure to get one from same year range.

@@mjmcomputers So what your saying is there is already a transmission temperature sensor that is already wired and ready to be plugged into the cluster?

@@8__D yes the ecm already monitors trans temp. Most odb2 readers can read the trans temp from the ecm.
