This is an extremely well considered camper with excellent systems, materials and fittings. The Truma system is an excellent choice for a camper of this type. The roof actuators should provide decades of trouble free usage and are simple, quick and easy to operate, and best of all they free up the space for that gorgeous wrap around window. This camper design looks fresh and new, and the layout allows for the camper interior to be used when the (optional) bunk beds are being used. Interesting that the lack of fixed windows isn't as apparent as one might initially think, but until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed it! A nice take on a new camper, it'll be good to see some feedback once these have been in use for a while.

I was sitting here this morning moping over my disappointment w/Toyota. They improved the Tundra specs, but not class leader on net, let alone “World Beater”. I was counting on 2,200lbs of payload so I could go with Camp-X. Replacing my ‘05 of 17 years; retirement present to myself. Then I saw this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you my Brother. Without going into detail, looks like kitted out my way, the SuperTramp comes in 150-200lbs lighter then Camp-X. Plus it has some better features for me. Ironically, when I first began planning all this before I retired, I was doing a deep dive on FWC. Your Camp-X 2018 video changed my mind. Crazy that yet another video for me has shown me the way. You like the Yoda of Off-road campers 👊🏾

Loved that. I think they will be swamped with new orders! The only negative I can find is not having any lower window to look out when seated inside. Maybe one on that big driver-side wall and on the door as options for people that want it. Today was a real shit day and I am soo glad I found this to make my evening happier :) Thank you.

These things are *starting* at $60k now. I paid $64k for a northern lite 10-2 limited (after tax) a few months ago. I get it, that camper is designed for a 1 ton and this camper *may* work with a half ton and its incredibly well-built but $60k? Thats bananas when you compare it to something that is 85% as good and less than 1/3rd the price

I love when all the price people show up. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it. It’s worth what anyone is willing to pay for it. You’re buying a made in America product made by a small company using high end components. You’re paying to support hundreds of hours of research and development and supporting a local company.

If a lightweight pop-up camper is what you want, you can get a less than $10k, 500lb pop up truck camper that mounts like a canopy, allowing you to use your truck as a truck when not camping and you can outfit according to your activity as opposed to paying for stuff you don't want or need. Lots of competition out there for your money. Be realistic in your "needs assessment." If you have $50k of disposable income, go for it. If you are a "normal person" like me who counts their pennies, there are "good enough" options out there for a lot less. Marketing is all about convincing you that you need something you don't. That said, the foundation of a free economy is "what is the customer willing to pay for a given product?" If you can sell a few for a whole lot or a bunch for less.....take your pick.

Looks good, bit pricy for sure. My criticism would be leaning up against those bolts sticking out of those jacks. Next would who would want to move a half full toilet to take a shower in that little compartment. And lastly if I understood correctly, you disconnect the indoor sink facet and take it out door? I do like the thought of a fully composite camper. I wonder how it holds to miles of off-roading.
@mixflip
@mixflip 3 жыл бұрын
She said you could spray off a dog outside with the head of the sink. I'm guessing it's long? As for durability. Northern lite has been making fiberglass truck campers for decades. I'm guessing a pop up truck camper is just as strong especially in the locked down lowered position.

I love the layout and design. The only thing that would make me look elsewhere is the electric actuators that raise the pop top. I would prefer a manual lift because there are fewer things to break over time. If any of the actuators, where would you get parts? I don't live near Colorado so I couldn't go to their location to get it fixed.

I've been going back and forth between getting a popup truck camper or a custom camper van for retirement travel. I'm leaning toward a van because, even though the cost would be higher, it can be built with exactly the features I want, whereas truck campers tend to be limited in what they offer without stepping up to a heavier unit and an HD truck which I don't want to do. Going that route would be even more expensive than a custom van. Most of the lightweight popup campers out there just don't offer the comfort, storage or features of even a small van. That said, this camper is impressively equipped and light weight, perfect for a 1/2 ton truck. I like the looks of it too. I think $39k might be a bit steep, but I would consider something like this, paired with a new Tundra or maybe an F150 Ecoboost.
@mixflip
@mixflip 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I wasn't a fan of vans 10 years ago but now I wouldn't mind a field van or mod van that can seat 5 and sleep 5 lol. I have 3 kids. This one has a bunk option which caught my attention.
@dlg5485
@dlg5485 3 жыл бұрын
@@mixflip Sleeping capacity is a problem with both options, but a lot of van builders these days can install popup toppers with an 'attic' bunk. I rally like that option because its still low profile and aerodynamic when the popup isn't in use, but you have the space when needed.
@SixMonthsIn
@SixMonthsIn 3 жыл бұрын
Don't fear the HD truck. You are going to pay, one way or the other. You can get a van that rides nice and isn't as HD as a truck but it will have more problems carrying the weight of a buildout than a HD truck or you can get an HD truck with a truck camper that can handle the wear and tear of hauling heavy and will have fewer problems. It's all a trade-off. Sure, a popup is nice with a low COG but just one windy night in a popup and you will wish you had bought a hard side camper. A flapping fabric wall and sleep deprivation will have you shopping for a hard side. Vans are great and compact but living in one full time without being able to stand up (unless you go bigger) is a deal breaker for me. A taller one is going to be top heavy off road and a white knuckle drive on windy days on the interstate. I truly understand why these are difficult decisions to make but I would always opt for HD and a little more room, especially if living in it full time.
@dlg5485
@dlg5485 3 жыл бұрын
@@SixMonthsIn It's not just about cost, it's mostly about size and weight. I don't want a huge rig that can't go where I want to go and is unwieldy to drive. I intend to do some mild overlanding and lots of off grid camping so a large HD truck is simply out of the question. In fact, I'm still not ruling out a mid-size truck or a small van. A light, compact footprint is the primary concern for me, everything else is secondary.

@@dlg5485 Here’s an option: truck bed camping. I do it on short weekend trips when I want to go light and not load up my truck camper for just one or two overnights. I have built out my truck bed so that it is very comfortable and dry. I have a lightweight aluminum topper to protect me and keep my gear protected. A trifold mattress, a sleeping bag and a privacy tent with a portable toilet and my needs are met. You won’t get anything lighter and more nimble than that. Plus, I have an Oztent RV2 tent for just being able to sit up in bad weather. I installed a 40 gallon water tank with 12V on demand pump behind the seats in my Supercab complete with an outside shower faucet and hot water from a heat exchanger installed inline in the heater hose. I have endless hot water for showers. Pure comfort and extremely low cost. I have a FB group with 8.8k members and we all share ideas and build out options. Most of us have very capable 4x4 trucks that will take us anywhere we want to go. It’s a low cost way to be comfortable and travel to remote places. Your money is saved and off-road capability maximized. Money for gas and beer: $40k. Think “outside the box” and ignore the marketing hype. You don’t need that camper. You can thank me later and buy me a beer with the $40k I just saved you. You are welcome!

You get what you pay for, usually. Cheaper stuff has WAY less resale value typically. When you buy something more expensive the depreciation is frequently the same as the cost of the cheap version. At least that's the hope. It's a risk with a newer company like this, resale values really aren't established.

Now if this was say 20-25grand I could see something like this having a lot of value. Its a great design but I don't see the justification for that price point of 40k plus. I really should start a truck camper company. I had no idea that there were so many people willing to part with their money so eagerly. The best part of the RV boom is the number of new buyers who have no idea of the value of anything. There is AT LEAST a 100% markup on this camper. I also laugh every time I hear this companies plug that they are "Made in Colorado". How does that make them better? It doesn't. It just makes potential buyers think of all of the outdoor activities available there. It has no impact on quality of materials or workmanship. Everything today is about marketing and brand. It is so very exhausting.
@mixflip

It's the times. Overlanding was already booming over the last 10 years. Then covid hit and pushed demand through the roof. As for made in Colorado. There could be precieved value if you consider US made still means something i.e. woodwork by the Amish. German engineered car or guns etc....vs made in China but designed in Australia like the Black Series overland campers. But I hear you. Marketing is marketing. You have to figure out if they are legit or blowing smoke. I've seen tons of products....this camper looked premium compared to others like the palomino backpack pop up camper.

@@mixflip Palomino is a great example of "Made in the U.S.A." quality. They are a pariah in the truck camper world. The big manufacturers are struggling with demand and labor shortages. They have problems keeping trained people on their build floor. The smaller, cottage businesses like Supertramp will have problems producing enough to actually build a reputation. Companies like ATC and Bundutec have done it but they are all having the same problems. The fit, finish and quality of Supertramp's demo camper may or may not carry over to production. This happened with Hiatus truck campers, too. Never heard of them? Well, they cannot produce many campers, yet. Many manufacturers like FWC know that this is a bubble and are refusing to expand to meet temporary demand that will decline quickly once COVID subsides (if ever). Abandoned orders and forfeited deposits are going to increase because the money set aside to pay the remaining cost of what they ordered is going to get spent before the camper is completed. Imagine buying a car and waiting 2 years to take delivery of it. That money is going to be long gone before 2 years have passed. These are luxury items and the cost of living is going up every day.

@@chadreed7569 Oh, get over yourself. I've owned truck campers my entire life. You have been brainwashed into thinking that these campers are worth that. They aren't. I bought a 1998 Lance 990 in 2013 for $7,200 and it has been everywhere and seen some offroad travel. I tend to go places I probably shouldn't go in it. I have had just as much fun as anyone buying a $40k truck camper or a $500k Earthroamer and my camper has held up well and I have been everywhere an Earthroamer could go. I did not spend $40k doing it. Please stop defending people who want to get rich off you. Four Wheel Campers are just wood and aluminum and are subject to the same problems as all wood and aluminum campers: wood rot due to condensation from having hollow aluminum in the walls and sides PLUS water soluble glues hold things together. I have NEVER looked at a used FWC that did not have some type of wood rot or had some wood replaced in it. My 1998 Lance is still together, still looks good and I have never had to replace any wood due to rot. Newer is not always better. Don't believe the hype. They are in your brain lying to you and trying to get your money. Trust an old guy like me who isn't trying to sell you something. You don't need to pay $40k to go camping. Just apply common sense.

Generally agree, except I would imagine a company in Colorado would truly understand their customers better than one in Mexico or even Asia. Also, they will be accountable to their customers being in the US unlike a foreign manufacturer.
@SixMonthsIn
@SixMonthsIn 3 жыл бұрын
@@rangerdoc1029 There is a hint of ethnocentrism in your comment but I think I understand what you are trying to say. I live in KY so how could a company living in Colorado possibly understand my needs? A very large part of marketing is creating images in your brain that suggest to you exactly what you said. It might make sense if ALL of their customers live in Colorado but I'm sure that is not their business plan. Your comment about "accountability" does not resonate with me. I have been dealing with a company in California that could care less whether I received the product they shipped to me. It was lost in transit and they were no help. It is two months later and I still don't have the product because it was damaged during shipping and I ALONE had to bird dog the shipment to get the carrier to even LOOK FOR IT. Rather than send me another one, the company said I had to place a new order for another one and they would refund the cost of the original one once they completed the warranty claim (could take months) with the shipper. Does that sound like good customer service to you? They had no interest in my satisfaction because they are 2,200 miles away and they already collected my money. This idea of "American exceptionalism" is just non-existent from where I sit. It was somewhat true when I was younger and the world was different, but not now. People used to start businesses to make a living doing something they enjoyed and/or were good at. Now, people start businesses so they can make 100% profit and get rich off poor hard working people. The goal now is to build a company and go public and then sell and get rich. Yes, they are free to do that but that does not mean they are entitled to it or more superior than the rest of us. If you take away ALL of the marketing and just have a few billboards and magazine ads with zero AI or computers, people would NOT be so enamored with these products. Instead of seeing "epic" videos of camping in exotic places and mountain summits, people would only see the practical use of a camper. As a result, they would not be willing to pay a year's salary (or more) for some fiberglass, wood and aluminum. Social media has played a huge role in glamorizing the outdoor lifestyle and video editing can make any place seem like paradise. Do you understand what I am trying to say? It's mostly an illusion crafted by artificial intelligence and huge computers that are smarter than we are and know things about us that we don't know about ourselves. It is mind manipulation in its purest form. "Branding" is what is causing you to believe you need to pay $40k for a camper. Wake up, Neo...the Matrix has you.

My friend is building up a ford transit awd ecoboost van. You'd be surprised how much money he has spend just on tires, bumpers, a winch, roof rack and solar power. I'd imagine building a single piece composite camper and outfitting it gets expensive real quick too.

@markjob6354 3 жыл бұрын
@@mixflip It is. My point is you are trying to compare apples with oranges here. Although this is a good camper, it is not a high end Truck Camper, and it's "Rolex watch" price point is not commensurate with the build quality and available features. It's trying to be a Host Industries Mammoth Truck Camper, when it is really a half ⛺ tent.

I don’t understand the appeal of this style of camper (or roof top tents of the vehicle). Have to pack up every time you want to move or go explore. To me, seems much smarter to have an off-road trailer to set up as a base camp and explore out from there.
@mixflip
@mixflip 3 жыл бұрын
Some people don't want to drag a trailer around. Plus it can be hard if not even impossible to go in some places with a trailer. I have camped with both. Both have their pros and cons. If you use it as a tailgate party spot at a race or sports event or at a ski resort parking lot, a truck camper is better. If you are going to a national park to explore, a trailer is good. Just park then unhitch and explore even if parking is limited in the park. (Yellowstone has horrible parking)

@@mixflip I have a wood-framed truck camper with aluminum siding. I can fix my camper using material from Lowes AND do it all myself. Can you do that with composite? Maybe, but there are advantages to using wood and aluminum. The flexibility of wood is a good thing when off road but you do have to maintain the seals. It is somewhat forgiving when getting twisted up. Exactly what material are they calling "composite"?
