I've just begun work on the Iowa so I just ordered a couple of sets. I'm sure one set would have been enough, but I know that I'll f*** up a lot of them so it never hurts to have some spares.

And if you have extra you can always glue them in random places around the house, just to put a smile on your face 😉

Hi Ben, happy to say I just got my Oerlikon canons and Titanic benches and anchor chair. Seriously good resolution printing. My Titanic passengers are going to be very comfortable. Just a bummer about the 29Euros import tax but what the heck, well worth it, will save me a couple weeks of my life 🤣😂🤣😂 Thanks. Laura

About removing resin parts from the sprue, I tried sawing them off with a Hobby saw I used a Dremel all with some form of success but still was breaking bits in the end I converted a old solder iron into a hot knife and the parts all come iff the sprue clean

Ben, very nice indeed. If I may suggest; its probably a lot of work, but it would be interesting to have some of them in their up position maybe? Or just random angles. So they dont look exactly the same. Maybe a separate set of 25 so they can be mixed up. Awesome work, thumbs up!

Ben not long after watching your presentation, and I must say great work. Someone wrote if you are doing them in 1/350 scale. Well I found a set quite by accident on eBay. There is a company out there called Bunker Studio, and they do a set of 20mm Oerlikon cannons with the tripod mounted base and with computer sights. And also do a set of Oerlikons with the tripod mounted base and with the iron sights and with gun crew. And they appear very sharp and very detailed. And also found a company called Zim Model. They have produced a 1/35 scale. Quadruple 40mm Bofors comes with a base and fire control unit
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
Yes, there are lots of 1/350 options out there. What I did notice was many of them still require you to assemble the whole gun. Which is frustrating at that scale. I’m going to provide some and see how they do.
@heathstephenson386311 ай бұрын
@TheMidwestModelShop Not these guns Ben they are fully assembled no photo etch at all. I should have more specific.

Perhaps one day you can do some scale figures for my 1/200 Iowa. That would be cool. No rush. My Iowa is 95% complete. Been working on it for about 2 and a half years. It`s that last 5% that seems to take time. A very challenging and exquisite model. Weathering, rigging and the railing to the finish. I think the phot0- etch kit railing could have been improved on.
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
I want to make figures. But they are a completely different kind of challenge from hard surface objects. But I’m not giving up on the idea. One of these days we will get there.
@Custer070611 ай бұрын
Hi, nice looking Oerlikons. Can they be downscaled to 1/350? This would be awesome, 1/200 is something I decided not to tackle. If you don‘t mind a slight nitpick coming from a German, surly you meant to say/print „iron sights“ and not „iron sites“? Will continue to watch your Enterprise effort, lots to learn for 1/350! All the best..
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
Yes and no. I can and probably will down size them. But you will loose some detail. There are limits even to resin. The key will be getting the “look” of the real thing at 1/350. Give me some time and I’ll see what I can do.

Wow, more tedious tiny guns! I don't know how you can do it...one reason I avoided building those big beautiful ships is just too many small parts and the rigging...omg! I love watching you do it though.

Perhaps it might help if you put a thick Towel beneath to prevent parts hitting a hard surface
@jodonnell6411 ай бұрын
I have a 1/200 Iowa that's on indefinite hold. Health issues were making me all kinds of jittery, so it was nearly impossible to do any kind of extremely fine detail work such as that required for these kits. It's still affecting me, but has eased up somewhat. Anyway, all that to say that if I ever do get back to building it, I will definitely be getting these from you. Now, if you could do the same for the quad Bofors...?😉
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
I actually started thinking about them at the same time as the cannons. Because there’s usually less of them than the 20mm, I focused on the Oelikon, but I do want to tackle them. Stay tuned to see what we can do 😉
@jeffreycohn640711 ай бұрын
These are wonderful! I’ve been dreading dealing with the Pontos versions. I noticed there are very slight remnants of the supports along the barrels once you snipped them off. Are the barrels sturdy enough to attempt to sand those down with a fine sanding stick, or is it better to not worry about it?
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
Both!!! I noticed that too and a lot of it had to do with hurrying along to get them painted for the video. If you do a careful job, your snip will get all of it. If you’re careful you can use a very light sanding stick. BUT!!! You are seeing these images through a macro lens and then blown up even more on your TV, phone, or whatever devise… in real life, you’ll never notice them.

Hey Ben, Been watching you awhile now. Love your vids and classes you provide. I have some questions and hopefully you'll respond. Have you ever watched Ron Caverley and the model ship? Great vids on his modeling and everyday life. Also what kind of shop do you have? Looks like a trailer or portable office or is it your basement? If it is a portable office or trailer can you send me a link to where you bought or rent it. I have space for that but no room in the house. I would love to build the Arizona. Hope you'll build the Yamato. Thanks for Your Time, Preston Woodall
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
Hey Preston! Yes I’ve watched a few of Ron’s videos and check in on his builds from time to time. My model shop is in the basement of our house. Our old house didn’t have a basement and so it was in a spare bedroom. Nora and I talked about this recently, and even though our current home is bigger than what we had, my model shop still occupies the same foot print as before. One really doesn’t need too much room.

@bushranger90011 ай бұрын
Aussie 5c piece lol. I am guessing 1/350 Oerlik would be way to small for 3D just have a 1/350 enterprise build coming up?
@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
It’s not too small. It’s just too small for all of the detail exactly as you see it. The trick will be getting the correct “look” at that scale so your minds eye is happy with it. I’m going to see what I can do 😉
@keithfukumitsu478511 ай бұрын
nitpicky detail... The term is "sights" not "sites" So cool that you are able to get such great detail in these. I totally appreciated the tedious build process with the earlier guns. And so superior to the KA printed guns

@TheMidwestModelShop11 ай бұрын
Yes, it will take some doing because some of the detail simply won’t print at that scale. But with a little rework I think I can do it.

Are any of your 3d prints scalable to 1/350? I'd buy a ton of the 20mm in 1/350. 1/200 is just out of my league for display space.
