I have to say that I built something similar to this just over a year ago and although it flew well enough, ie, straight and quite well balanced, I just didn't enjoy it. It was then that I realized that I want to turn the power off and glide. I prefer to view my plane in the same way I view a bird. I enjoy watching what it does and how it reacts to the air around it with mere guidance from me to, hopefully, keep it up there. I'll probably get started again next year as I've done nothing since I destroyed my Phoenix 2000 on it's maiden in the spring.
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 9 жыл бұрын
+wordreet Agreed. Gliding, powered flight, multi rotor - in that order. You must have been really trying to destroy the Phoenix. Actually I did significant damage on the sloping maiden too.

+Andrew Newton Heh, not trying anything much at the time, but a bad case of itchy thumbs got me out on a windy day having never flown the thing before. Unfortunately, although I launched it ok, I remained standing in a corner of the field rather than moving further out to where I SHOULD have landed it. The corner of the field on that day was full of turbulence from the industrial estate, so when I brought the PK2 down for a low pass, it suddenly performed a 3/4 backloop plus 90 degree downwards and downwind turn while upside down sort of thing, and proceeded to attempt to fly THROUGH two rows of barbed wire and a post!!! The starboard wing got it's middle bent horizontally and vertically by the post, (approx 15 degrees at the square ally tube) aileron and flap came off and ripped out the servo arm. The fuse was ok, electrics were ok, but the tail area engaged the barbed wire and ended minus 4 pieces. So I have the tail still attached with no rudder and starboard tailplane still attached with no elevator and the other tailplane ripped off and separated from it's elevator. Both of my carbon tube snakes and their carbon push rods were destroyed. That was also my first flight with my new Optic 6 computer TX. It was working fine and felt pretty much like my regular TX. But, because I hadn't flown for several months at the time, my brain must have jammed. :¬D I'll get back in sometime because I've all these planes and sheets of foam hangin about looking at me. As to when. Hmm . later. :¬)

Can I apply packing tape on fuselage instead of laminating film ?

@ricchatrc

That iron-on laminate film has got me thinking....can you still use packing tape for colour and then use the iron-on laminate to seal, or would you say that's a bit overkill.
@AndrewNewton

As long as the tape can handle the heat it would work OK

Online CG calculators for wings and canard planes. For a more conventional plane I start 25% back from the leading edge (of a straight wing) then fly and adjust

Andrew Newton Thank you for vieving my comment and replying i like your plane but i had i question will it work with 1000kv motor with 10x9.5 inch1045 propeller please, in resum will it fly with less power and work more or less as a glider thanks
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 9 жыл бұрын
***** Depends how much thrust the motor produces. Anything over 300g thrust will be good. This plane is not really suited as a glider. For a better glider using these building materials I would go for at least a 1.5m wing and slimmer fuselage.

really nice! the elevator is beautiful and I like the taper in the tail. did you make a symmetrical wing? I'm guessing that's where the underside wing curvature is coming from.???
@Boekan_Arsheetec

28th St. Air Land & Sea I guest it's semi symmetrical like he said in 3:05, "A little bottom curve".
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 9 жыл бұрын
28th St. Air Land & Sea Bit of a story behind the wing. I originally made it symmetrical and tapered, but it was a tip stalling disaster. Don't know why. So I ripped it open, recut it to be straight and tried to make it flat bottomed but it ended up with a slight bottom curve. Works beautifully now.

Awesome build! I use that same motor with an 8x6 prop (much faster). It's on a scratch built 540 style plane- 30" long body with full symmetrical airfoil wing that is 36" long with a tapered chord of 8" down to 6" 2" control surfaces all around. The plane weighs 550g fully loaded. I don't know where I was going with this comment, but I thought you might like to change the prop out for some more speed.

***** Great info thanks Chris. I will try an 8x6. Your wing must have been better shaped than my attempt at symmetrical and tapered.

hi mate , does the EZload laminate film stretch as you heat up like the covering film you get from hobby shops ? Also does it stick better and add strength to foam compared to packing tape ? cheers
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 7 жыл бұрын
Howdy, this laminate does not stretch like the covering film so you have to cut tabs and overlap narrower pieces for complex curves. It's stronger than tape but does unstick with a lot of flexing. I actually prefer tape for curvy applications

how do you choose an esc that isn't too low or overkill for a motor?
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 7 жыл бұрын
I usually measure the maximum current at full revs with a Watt meter then add at least 20% for safety. But the spec sheet that comes with the motor will have a recommended ESC or max current with specific prop size and battery voltage.
