Recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, arrive at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.
Recruits arrive at Parris Island late at night and are immediately thrust into the stressful whirlwind of in-processing, platoon assignment, haircuts, uniform and gear issue and medical evaluations. They would also have an opportunity to make their first phone call home. This is the last time they'll talk to their families for three months.

those 12 weeks were the hardest time of my life, physically and mentally. problem is that 12 weeks is my life from the day i left boot camp. it saved my life more than once and imprinted itself on the way i approach any problem. it's been decades since i left P I. It's still there. Semper Fi

This was the most anxious, alien, confusing time in my whole life. Receiving was the real hell.

When and if you go before a promotion board and you're asked, how would you use that rank. Answer should be: Use it to the best of my abilities and seek improvement where needed. That was my answer going before Sergeant (E-5) (0351) promotion board, which lasted 2 minutes and I was done and promoted the next day.

This seems just slightly more stressful than what I went through in the Army.

Sure brings back memories, but my entry 🎉occurred in Feb. 1958. The facilities were less accommodating then, but obviously the reception and introduction to very intense life changing boot camp pressures are much the same! SEMPER FI !!!
