As a kid playing Gran Turismo, I hated this track. But as I kept having to play it to progress and each game had it as a staple, I eventually got better and better at it and now it is my favorite track to race. I hope one day I can take a lap on it for real. I think I got that corkscrew science down lol.

As someone who has lapped Laguna many times, I for one am impressed. It's amazing, production cars in more or less stock form are available these days that will lap just as fast as fully prepped GT racing cars of not that many years ago. For example, I think that lap time is similar to what Bruce Canepa manages in the mighty (once all-conquering) Porsche 935 at the Monterey Historics. Some will argue that Canepa is taking it easy, but I don't really think he is. Those guys get pretty competitive. I would like to know what lap time a good driver could turn in the C8 Z06 Corvette.

@@JerryCecco 200k to quarter million with 12kish miles on them. There's Porsche horsepower and then there's everything else. The RS3 is an Animal and this guy could get 129s if he really pushed it, the car didn't get squirly once and that ending corner he braked pretty early which could have shaved a second easily. The Acr vipers can do it in 1:30 to compare that's about 10 seconds quicker than a c8 lol.

Lots of things could be done better for sure. This was also 4 years ago. Oem at the time Dunlop sport maxx tires

Terrific video, especially with the telemetry data (I can’t log brake pressure and if sucks). Question for you - for most of the corners I noticed you are at 50-100% throttle way before the apex. This is contradictory to the typical rule of picking up throttle at the apex > corner exit. Can you explain a little on why this is so effective? I’m trying to improve my technique, and the best practice information can be confusing.

Best practice of throttle at apex is still correct for most corners. Some corners want earlier throttle to keep the back end planted on a high speed kink. Exit speed is most important, but you have picked up on my weakness, which is maintaining corner entry speed. There are corners here where I have entered too slow and I am compensating by adding throttle earlier. This is where the lap can still be improved. This car can do a solid 1:32 lap time if driven correctly.

thanks for asking, I was confused by the same thing. I guess finding that point where the stability of early throttle beats the convention method is the hard part. so turn 6 looks like early throttle is better, but 3 and 4 I don't really think it's faster to throttle early.

During his epic battle with Jan Magnussen, Jörg Bergmeister put in lap times of 1:24 to 1:28, so a 1:33 is quite close, considering that this here is a street car whil Bergmeister had a Cup car....

Weissach package is total marketing fluff. It does NOT make the car appreciably faster. To make a car 3 seconds faster or even 2 seconds faster is a completely different car top to bottom.

Great driving ! About the sound, what did you use to record the exhaust? I have a Rode lav mic with a wind screen placed near the license plate and it's connected to my iphone. The sound gets distorted heavily at high rpms. But your setup sounds perfect. Did you use a sound recorder and if so what settings did you use? Thx!

Your exhaust sounds great, I understand you have the mic close to the exhaust. Do you pass the sound limitation at Laguna Seca? I just bought a 991.2 GT three RS, and there’s a Track here in Arizona that has a 96db sound limitation. I would love to be able to run, but if I can’t I’m going to crack pipe it, I think. Great driving, I have yet to make it there. I have plans to track the holy crap out of my RS.

This car passes 90db sound but only with a device that forces the exhaust valves closed at the sound station and turn away pipes.

Sport maxx race 2 were my favorite and gave the most consistent and most number of fast cycles. Cup2 is only faster for one session. I’ve never used 3R

Well, MX5cup is likely being piloted by a better driver and MX5 cup is on race tires, while this a street car on oem street tires. Not quite apples to apples. Nonetheless MX5s are impressive.

Need to brake later and harder. Pick the throttle up once and cleanly. Braking too early hence why you’re picking up the throttle before the apex Good commitment but it’s not the quickest way. If you can pick the throttle up before the apex or ever on part throttle it’s normally a result of going in too slow. There are some corners that are an exception but in this case it’s a habit by the looks of it. You can be quick but you won’t be quickest unless you sort that

@@carholic-sz3qv since I am German I can tell you this is wrong! 1. Almost all cars are limited to 250 2. Only a fraction even reach 250 3. Average travel speed due to traffic is about 120 4. The majority of our highways actually has speed limits either 120 or 130. 30% permanently restricted 50% dynamically restricted (weather, time and/or traffic controlled) On the other side: My Model 3 easily hits the 262 kph limiter The Plaid Model S easily hits +300 kph The new Roadster is set to hit +400 kph Go to sleep if you want to dream 🤣
