C8 CORVETTE PUTS DOWN FASTEST LAP AT LAGUNA SECA... FT. MCLAREN, PORSCHE, AND MORE!

Here we are at Laguna Seca Raceway! This is the first Mid-Engine C8 Corvette to lap this track. Also, this is my first ever time truly driving on this track. Massive thanks to the McLaren 600LT owner and GT3 RS owner for being so awesome to lap with! They are fantastic drivers, and I am really thankful to them for showing me their own driving lines. One of the best parts about track days is the amazing car enthusiasts you get to meet! As a result of the above mentioned, I was able to put down the fastest lap for a C8 Corvette at Laguna Seca Raceway. I cannot wait to improve my driving and get more acquainted with this unbelievable racetrack. For the conditions we were driving in during this event, I'm told the track was "green". That being, there hasn't been a track day for cars at Laguna Seca for around 3 months, this is the first. Since the track wasn't driven on thoroughly, it is more slick than usual because the lack of rubber left on the road course beforehand.

FYI, in the real world where you are not slowing down to 0MPH, a MR car will have better braking and more consistent braking performance than a FR car. Better weight distribution on a MR, the rear brakes end up contributing a lot more.

@Herb Keynez haha within next ten years gas vehicles will be quaint. Internal combustion has been pushed to it's limits and electric is just getting warmed up. Soon it won't make sense for companies to spend money on developing internal combustion cars. I was able to keep up with Mclarens in my C63S. Here's why: Mclarens are $300k cars so the drivers are MUCH more careful. My C63S is only $90k. Damage/wear would be cheap as fuck so I push the car much harder.

I want a c8 so bad. There hasnt been a car in my lifetime come out that I can say I've ever wanted more that I might actually one day be able to get. I enjoy my 2017 5.0, but it's not a c8. Chevy really did something when they made this car, and this is the closest a poor boy from Alabama will ever get to anything even remotely exotic looking. I always had a Lamborghini countach poster on my wall as a kid. Owning a mid engine car like this with this level of performance was never something I thought might be obtainable until now.

This is just a base model C8 with no engine mods and it does very well with exotic cars 3 to 4 times more its value. I can’t wait to see what the C8 Z06 is going to be capable of.

Not that the C8 needs advertising but honestly, Chevy should be paying/supporting you to stay on the track at least weekly (they should send you on a tour of different tracks around the world - starting with your Z51 for familiarity and then send you back with the Z06 to see how far up the leader board you can get at every track!)

@@lawrencehoward7836 I agree. But nonetheless, the car is impressive. Had it been a 570s the outcome would have likely been different. The 600LT is specifically geared toward the track. It is over 400lbs lighter with 100hp more. A track version of the C8 with another 100-150hp more, more tire, and focused suspension would yield opposite results. But we'll have to wait for that.

Austin-At 11 min on the posted vlog: great correction and put down a slide that was nearly absolute perfection in my judgement as the slide got you between two points in the fastest manner possible and then you did that great...no, crazy steering correction. Your lines were awesome. I liked the way you hit some tight apexes to save distance. I did a food delivery during the Covid-19 with my C8, while you have learned another of America's great super tracks. Looked like you were ever more comfortable with your memory of the couple of difficult blind entries into turns, especially those left turns. Looks like you can get to wide open throttle almost right after the apex in some of these corners and the transaxle just figures it out and the car doesn't power oversteer. Each one of those corner exits you'd pull a few car lengths from a C7. How was tire, pad, rotor, and fuel consumption?

You have the best C8 track content. I always look forward to your videos. The C8 didn't have the legs for the other on track rivals, but that's ok. I think next time you should try running more serious track rubber to see what the difference the times would be. Also, if you don't have the front lift, adjust ride height for a better stance.

Speed Phenom you drove very good but the C8 Z51 already found its limit on the straights. To be able to give a stronger fight to the McLaren or the GT3RS. You would need the C8 Z06 or the Shelby GT500 track package to be on that level of performance. Either way your C8 Z51 behaved great on the curves, just needs more HP for the straights 👍

great review, good deep braking on some of the corners ! In the beginning you were shifting down to 2nd when you did not have to, allowing the car to stay a gear up keeps the car settled and acts like a TCS out of middle speed corners. Remember fast laps are about shedding a little time off each corner not devastating a single corner or braking point trying to get it all at once.

3:14: discovered it in GT3 Aspec, 20 years ago. And it came instantly my prefered track of all time. I was a speciaslist of sims... Let say, there is Monza and Laguna Seca. Laguna is so special. Scorkcrew of course, but also, a few open tight virages that are not easy to handle... And of course it's a fast circuit, the design is made to make you push strong as soon as you see an opportunity. My favourite circuit on Earth. It's a Rubick's Cube. While you have the key, you will rule and enjoy it.

The brakes are unbelievable. You brake late and it shows your confidence. The Maclaren is obviously more powerful in terms of horsepower and torque as you can see from the last turn till the start to finish straigth but you are a better driver as your time is faster. You gain it on the curves and on late braking. Great video.

I just did Virginia International Raceway last week in my c7 grand sport for the first time. It might be the best track in the country. If you ever need a place to crash to come out and do Road Atlanta you have a place to stay. I’m an hour from Road Atlanta. My home track. Both VIR and Road Atlanta are really fast tracks. Ah, Laguna Seca Raceway...fond memories watching IMSA racing there back in the 70's. At one race popped for a Pit Pass and as I strolled the pits, ran into Paul Newman. Those were the days of angry Porsche racers as Al Holbert ran circles around them with his Chevy Monza.

What surprised the hell out of me whas that he couldn't out brake you into the turns... Is the stock C8 that good on the brakes? Did they hold there own well enough until the end? I don't know how you were able to become a racing driver at such a young age! I was drifting go-karts at age 5 and could out drive most adults by 10. Sadly a spine issues I had got worse and took my chances. I got by on courier work seeing how I could get to places in 15 mins that took others 45 mins to an hour! I didn't make much money but it kept me driving and that was all I cared about.... Until spring last year when I was sitting at a red light and got nailed by a woman on her phone in a truck doing 55+... now my legs hurt too much to drive much at all. I hope you know you are real lucky to be doing what you do, never take it for granted!

Wow! Great performance! It’s amazing how the C8 can hang with such exotics! I rode shotgun in a McLaren 600 LT in the Nurburgring last year and it’s so incredibly fast and agile. But I think that with a simple stg 2 tuning ( remap, exhaust and intake),the C8 can be as fast as the Porsche GT3 RS on the straights! Go get them! The C8 Z06 will probably take more than a year to launch.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You do a pretty good job having not been around Laguna before. The C8 seems an incredible car. Your ability seems great,However you need some improvement in your driving line. Having won a number of races there I would be happy to give you the heads up. If you like. I know it’s a bold statement,but I have the credentials to back it up.

I can watch your hand doing the upshifts, I think, but am curious if I’m missing your manual downshifts. Are you downshifting or is the DCT managing the downshifts and throttle blips?

The c8 has a feature for downshifting in corners where you can do it manually or you can hold down the paddle and hit the brakes and the computer will put it in the lowest gear available for the speed you’re coming out.

You were clearly the better driver, but they had faster cars. Was that a 570s? At least $100k more than the C8, but it was funny how you kept catching them in the corners by taking a better line. But that's why I hate drag races, any idiot can stomp on the gas in a straight line and shoot off.
